I have it on my car. The kit cost about $80, install was about $100, and I had to pay about $20 for two relays to bypass the factory alarm. I got it from Circuit City.
The positives: It is good for heating up the car on a winter morning before going to school or work, scaring people who are standing next to it
The negatives: I don't get very good distance with the remote, and it's not too good in summer time because the AC takes so long to cool off the car without windows down, on REALLY cold mornings it won't remote start. It'll try 3 or so times and not start. It's like the system isn't holding the ignition long enough.
If you live in an area where it's cold, go for it! Look into a mercury kill switch for under the Hood
. This way, if the Hood
is even slightly open, the remote start will not operate. My kit is set up to lock the doors when the system engages, and I can still use my factory alarm system. Or if I want, I can use the new remote and locking the car will arm the alarm.
