Someone please help me!!

I am a 20 year old from New Zealand. I have just purchased my very first Toyota. A Celica but ofcourse. It's a 2000 GT. It is very phat in white with full TRD trim. I WANT MORE SPEED.

I have jut purchased (yet to install) an AEM CAI and an apexi S-AFC. Before I take delivery of the S-AFC I need to know is it going to improve MY GT. There has been such mixed reviews of them on this site!

This is from what I gathered from other peoples input:

You will have gains at first, then the gains will go back to normal due to the ECU, but at WOT (wide open throttle) you will still have the gains. So basically it is meant for only racing.

This is all I can provide you with, sorry I can't help out more.

First of all, you have to get the S-AFC dyno tuned. Second, get all your mods done first before the dyno tune.

The S-AFC works great a WOT for me. I have never had the kind of power in lift that i have with the contorller. Not sure what it will do for a GT. Maybe 3hp...

I suggest you don't waste your money on the s-afc. If you do decide to buy it, and you want it to actually change your air/fuel ratios, you'll need dyno tuning or else it is simply a 300 dollar pretty good for nothing gadget in your car. thumbsdown

Lets get shit straight right here, right now. The S-AFC DOES work. There are many dyno's to prove it. One source http://www.newcelica.org/other/dyno/

Mine added 5hp to the wheels at lift from passen motorsports on the dyno.
Not sure if it will work on a gt very well, but i dont see why not, all our cars run rich at WOT. Leanign that out will cause more power. Just dont go too lean or your motor will take a hit. If you dont have a S-AFC, dont say shit. Everyone lieks to say it doesnt work. Doesnt seem like many of you have them to say it doesnt.

ok that may be so SHI but Mike Lu had one on his GT, he said it wasn't worth having... 5 hp from $300 for parts and $xx.xx for dyno tuning is not beneficial enough for me. Just my opinion, I'm not knocking Apex-i or their products. Their products are top of the line and have been proven in their MRS/MR2 JGTC GT-300 car. I just don't like the cost/benefit ratio that you get out of this...

SHI - when his car was n/a, he had a s-afc. he got rid of it when he got his turbo kit.

WHAT DO I GAIN? I dont sell them. I have mine set to take effects at NE3000. 3000rpms on up. Trust me on this steven... PEACE GUYS.

SHI - there must be a misunderstanding because I'm not calling you a liar. I'm just simply stating 300+ dollars is not worth just 5 hp.

Well...I still don't know whether I'm up or down at the moment. How about this...

I will get my S-AFC and do my other mods. I'll dyno it and then (eventually) i'll be able to give you my findings.

Then we'll have some more proof what ever the outcome.

Cheers guys.

I have heard from many sources that the S-AFC won't do much for the GT and is totally not worth the money.. this is coming from a VERY trusted guy with a GTS who has an APEX-i. The GTS will run lean after intake is installed, The GT usually runs rich as it is even with CAI, so the AFC wouldn't be able to help that much (other than fuel economy at least). You do need some sort of tuned AFC with a turbo though.. otherwise you would be VERY lean in your air fuel ratio, your car probably wouldn't run.. All 3 of the turbo kits coming out this summer come with either a reprogrammed ECU or an AFC of some sort.. so IMO if you have a GT, there is no reason to get one unless it's part of a turbo kit.

the only reason I could see, is if you never run your car hard, but still want it to keep the power up, and want the ECU to not do the fuel/performance switch on you.. It MIGHT help you there, but that is such a small difference, you might not even notice it.

I agree on the GT. Not worth it. I only had 2 hp gain at 6000rpms. Untill lift were i gain 5hp it doesnt do shit really.

SHI - the Apex-i S-AFC produced HP on the GTS... no doubt about it,,, but i believe this controversy is about whether or not those 5 hp's were actually permanent... Supposedly the OEM ecu would overwrite the s-afc's ratios back to stock... confused

correct. You will have low end gaind for a while, maybe a wk or so untill the ECU adapts to the new settings and changes it back. Once you go to WOT it has a set of instructions it always follows at WOT allowing the S-AFC to be usefull. So the gains are there again, i can feel my car kick in when i go to WOT, also when i start my car, once the apexi CPU starts running, about 3 secs after the Logo finishes running on the screen, my cars idle goes up 400rpms cause i have it running rich at low rpms.
