Ok I see everyone talkin about landing in lift all the time. What is lift? Is it not possible on a GT, since the GTS is VVTLift-I and the GT is VVT-I? And what are lift bolts, and why do they break so easily, what causes it? Thanks for the info, Im so confused about this topic.

i quote Isaac

"VVTL-i

The new 180hp Celica GTS (USA/CAN) now features the amazing VVTL-i engine developed by Toyota and Yamaha. Based on the standard 140hp 1.8 VVT-i, the VVTL-i has both Variable Valve Timing and Variable Valve Lift. The latter is achieved by an extra cam lobe that is brought into play by the engine electronics via a hydraulic actuator.

Interestingly, Toyota have set up the system so that the extra power kicks in over 5000 rpm. The torque curve of a VVTL-i is almost exactly the same as a VVT-i up to that point and then suddenly, where the VVT-i begins to run out of steam and revs, the new engine develops a new lease of life producing the extra 49 bhp right through to its 8000 rpm redline.
...

The diagram below shows the two cams which are both always turning, and the hydraulic actuator that moves the 'Rocker Arm Pin' into place at a preset engine speed."

lift is the distance a valve opens to let air into the cylinder. The greater the opening the faster air can flow into the cylinder. At high rpm the gts engine changes the lift distance so air can get in there faster. The gt engine does not have that feture. When the gts changes it's valve distance it is a noticeable difference in Performance. Most of us on this form like to keep everything simple and just call this landing lift.

Your welcome, Lift confused me for a while as well, I know what it was, and how it worked. But that animation I posted really made me actually see what happens. The pictures are good, but actually seeing the internals move is so much better.

someone on another post said that only manual GTS can experience lift. That's not true is it? The auto can too right?
