Shady mechanics of Toyota
Here's the thing and it's kind of long. I dropped my Celica off at Toyota Monday night to get an engine flush (with my Mobil 1 added), transmission drain/flush (with Redline MT-90), lube chasis, and check suspension. I called Toyota Tuesday morning around 8:15 to tell them not to do the transmission flush because I didn't get the Redline in time. The service guy said he read my note and wasn't going to do it. He also said that my car was already on the lift and the plastic under my car was hanging. I told him I forgot about that and if they could fix it if it was only fasteners. He said that would only cost me a couple dollars more to fix. I said fine. Around 3:45 I go to Toyota to pick my car up after work. The service manager said he will start writing up the paperwork like my car just got done. He says they put the Mobil 1 in like I asked and to see about getting my coilovers counterbalanced on scales, which I plan on doing. I paid $105 and drove 10 minutes home. Now here's the thing. Wednesday I get up to go to work and start my car up. I decide to check the plastics under the car. Attached. I start driving to work and the suspension feels different. A lot more solid than before like they tightened and torqued every bolt. The doors in my car feel the same. Not only that, but the parking brake doesn't squeak from the back brakes when I stop and pull it up like it has been for months. I don't even roll on an incline with it up. Solid. Not only that, but my clutch pedal feels different. On my way to work I had my car jerking not once but twice shifting. The clutch pedal doesn't have that loose feel it use to. It feels good real good. Not only that, but my car sounds and drives amazing, like new. I can't begin to describe how good it is. I now remember how it was to hear and slightly feel hitting lift in 5th. The list goes on...The exhaust tip on my car use to hang close to my bumper. Not touching or not a problem, but now it is fully centered perfectly. I can even reach my hand in over the top where before I really couldn't. I also now have all the fasteners on my engine plastics where before I was missing about 4-5. This all for free from Toyota. Yes Toyota. No warranty either. But and here's the but. On my way to work and I pushed the gas pedal down to accelerate nothing but lag and bog. Was like that almost all the way to work. To me it felt the same way as after resetting the ECU which I did 4 times in the past when I had a CEL. By the way I haven't had a CEL in quite some time and the lag and bog is all gone now. My friend joked and said did they give me the right car? I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why do you think they did this? Am I hooked up or did they screw up? Like my car.

Yeah I know it's way way wayyyyy too long, but I had to tell the whole story. The car feels and drives great. I'm just worried they did something bad like took it for a test drive and misshifted to like 10,000 RPM's and are trying to cover their ass by resetting the ECU and doing all that stuff for free. I'm still a little confused why they would do that. I paid Toyota $89 in the past just to look at the suspension. It just doesn't make sense.

is it possible the mech that worked on your car is a tuner himself and he just hooked you up because he loves tuners and had the means to tighten things up for you? Just guessing...but I'd say you lucked out

Toyota likes to fix one problem, then cause 3 more that will come up in a couple of months.

Just wait, you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting decent service from Toyota.

Don't worry I'm already counting the days and playing the lottery. The later hasn't work out so far either.

After reading your post the whole way (didn't want to at first, did anyways)

I suggest you clean your MAF sensor and temp probe. That will get rid of the bogging and shifting problems, trust me.

I have a more detailed picture of the MAF I need isaac to post. wave

I have cleaned it in the past before. Today after I washed and inspected my car for damage and changes after Toyota had their fun with it. I took my car for a fast drive like the early days. Back roads and twisties. Then on the highway all the way to 135. Not a hesitation anywhere. My Celica sounds and runs like new. I have new love for my girl. Thanks for the insight though. I'm just waiting for the engine to blow up and the transmission to fall out especially since I'm going back on Sat. to do the tranny flush and ask questions too. Maybe Toyota will give me a new car for labor costs alone this time.

I've had no complaints after they fixed my tranny twice. (it wasn't their fault the second time)
