it's held down by two plastic clips that you can see from the top. Just pop those off and the piece comes out. It should only take 10 seconds to get it out. The only purpose it holds is so that you can put stuff in it & it wont roll around the trunk, plus it covers the metal that's underneath.

yeah, most sub box'd are formed to go up and over that, so just leave the plastic on, unless you fabricated somthing to go over it.. (like me . .)
