the top speed of a stock gts? 135 was as far as I could push mine. that was with a friend in the car, on a windy night, and with a slightly curvy/hilly road(well they felt like hills)

after cai and trd exhaust, new torque allowed 142mph, although I feel I could have easily broken the 145 mark without one of my other friends(190lb) in the car and with more road(almost missed my exit, scary).

so uh, stock. gts probably = 135-140.at.most

The top speed for a 03 GTS 6 speed is 153. When the RPM's hit 7k in 6th gear, you're done. Autobahns in Germany made this easy to find out!

I've been 144-145mph. With an HKS exhaust and Injen Intake.
But it was a nice long straight road and no passenger.

I'm gonna take your little Civic. Dust it off. Turn it sideways and stick it straight up you candy A*s.

The ECU prevents lift from activating, so the engine runs out of breath at 7K in 6th gear.

With the PFC and a Turbo, I'd bet 170 MPH was possible.

yes, cars are legally governed to 155mph.

You can subvert that, though.

I believe, read, and had stated in the past that a GTS is rev limited to about 135 or 136 stock. With mods maybe more. It may not be safe to push a Celica over 150 MPH. I know for a fact that Audi TT in the early days had instability at high speeds, even though they could reach them and it was a problem if I heard about it. I'm sure a stock Celica is not aerodynamically designed to push near 150 or above without issues of stability or safety.

The Audi initially had problems at high speeds due to spoiler issues. Once the spoiler was raised, stability increased

In my 2001 Manual it says stuff about the governor being at 119 MPH(Manual). Bah! What a crock of shit.

The instruments are not very precise... the speedometer shows approx. 10% to much and maybe more at high speeds...
If you really wants to know how fast the car is, get a GPS og even better get some quality measurement equipment for the job...

A lot of those magazines are so awful when it comes to testing out cars, a lot say the GTS does 0-60 in like 7+ seconds, when it's really 6.3.. it's so awful.

Yup. I read one mag where our 1/4 time was like 15.9 seconds wtf

I think that they must have been shifting at 7500 RPM with the A/C on.
