I am thinking about designing and building a ferrari style shifter for the gt 5 speed if there is enough interest. Possibly even make one for the gts. Anyone who might be interested please reply.

yes you still have to use the clutch. the metal piece will pretty much just replace the shift boot.

imo, i dont like it~

and you might run a risk of breakin the rod if you shift too fast and hit the middle of the gates...

some ferrari owners did that...

It just might be me that's a total dumb ass, but 5 speed? You get the GT with only 5 gears in the US? We only have (as far as I know) 6 speed here in norway.

How the hell would you do that? I just don't understand...Oh, and someone said it would make your throws longer...NO! NO IT WOULDN"T This is just a guide for the stick. The throw is controlled by the pivot in the shifter housing. Has nothing to do with this overlay. I was also thinking of making one outta thick plexiglass. That way you cuold light it up underneath!! the shift gate PREVENTS the breaking of rods/etc.

If you can't guide the shifter properly, you need to get out of the Ferrari, take out a tire iron, and bludgeon yourself to death.

You do not deserve such an automobile.

crap. hmm. What is cool about this is I have a friend that has a computer automated laithe! So, once I have a functional prototype, I can mass produce them!

If one of you gets one working before I do let me know!

We can make this a joint venture!

bad news

i was looknig at the shifter and base on my way to class's and reilzed that our gate wouldn't exsist the ball of the shifter (i.e. the top of the shifter base) is nearly inline with the sides of the molding part ( i.e. where you would mount the shift gate)

so unless someone figures out how to drop the hole shifter base down like 3 inches its pointless to go on

makes you wonder how long that tops of those ferraris shifters are

Ok...I am back. Plexiglass is definately out...would crack being as thin as it would hve to be to fit. However, I think I could do it with aluminum. Looks like I have about 1/4 of an inch to deal with. Plus, the nice thing is I can make it slide right in to the factory shift boot housing! OMG this is gonna be sweet!!! ...

Now I just need some lotion, a tire iron, Ice cubes, a bull whip, dice, and a hooker and we are good to go! thumbsup

cant the picture on first page is what it would look like are shifter base's are too high to be able to do ones like that hence why mine just looks like an opening

I wonder how Ferrari makes that thing work then...

Ah well. It woudla been cool if it worked.

BTW... it is possible to break the shifter with those gates. A writer in R&T magazine did it twice while driving a Lambo with those type of shift gates during a comparison test. spineyes
