idk how the whole trade in process works...
would someone explain how it works...

so say, i want to trade my celica into a Subaru dealership for a new WRX for around 27k...

kbb says my celica is worth $18,025

so how does everything work? payments and such??

do you have to finish paying off part of the celica, then the new car? does the celica's value go into the new car's payment? frown
idk how it works.

make sure the value you looked up is the TRADE IN value and niot the re-sale value. also if you can get your car back to completely stock then that's a plus too.

basically whatever payments you have left on the old car they will tack the difference on to the new one. so if you have 10000 left of payments but the trade in value is 13000...then they take 3000K off of the price of the new car...but if you owe 13000 and it's valued at 10K they will add 3K to the price of the new car.

i see, i think i have almost the entire payment left on my celica...so with that...

figure 24k is left to pay
the new car is 26k
and trade in value is 18k

how does all that work?

your in the whole 6 grand... if you sold the car, you could get KBB value, then you still owe the bank 6000 bucks.

24000-18000=6000 + 26000= 32K

are you sure you have 24,000 left on payment? how long have you had your car and are willing to put a down payment with your trade...?

You have to pay off the loan, and I'm 100% positive the car is upside down, so you'll have to pay money to make it go away.

Then, you get to take on a new set of payments for the new car.

you MIGHT get $20K for the car in stock form.

Either way, you are looking at paying money out of pocket to pay off the loan.

Just hang onto it, selling a car when it's upside down is pointless

You have something called negative equity...Say you got $18k for the car, but owed $24k...You'd have to take the difference out of your OWN pocket just to finish paying the celi off. THEN...You could finance your WRX.

Just hang onto the celica, unless you want to spend money out of pocket to finish paying for it.

i see what you mean...

my brother told me my dad doesn't like how the car is a lot of maintenance...the celica that is...

i'm gonna talk to him...

the only reason i didn't get one was cause insurance was supposedly really high cause it's Turboed and 227 hp...with my name under it...
cause i'll pay for some insurance if i have to...but it's up to him for payments

Couple ?s real quick . I sold cars for 2 years so I have knowledge on the subject...
Is that your car in the pic?
Why no payments until a couple months ago?
Why is your car high in maintenance?
If your going to trade in you need to part it out or sell privatley your too riced out. If you do sell outright you will be expected to payoff the car in a few days so if you sell it for 18k and you owe 24k you need to come up with 6k quickly.

the WRX insurance is probably less than a GTS, but either way if the car is in your name, you are looking at high insurance costs.

If you ever get a ticket, it will skyrocket.

Why would you want to trade a Toyota for a Subaru, WRX has just as many problems as a Celica.

No offense but I find it stupid that you poured all that $$ to hook up a car that you owed 24K on. And worse is you don't want it now. You'd be more than 6K down the hole, you have to add in all your mods that you won't get 100% back on. Was the appearance, the compliments, and the attention all worth it now in hindsight?

But, the bank can add that difference to the amount you're financing for the new car (WRX). As said above

NJ roads are horrible, made the mistake of having a nice bodykit, and now it's 1000 to have it fixed and i'm sure more will come up...
the reason it's high maintenance is because i need something done/fixed all the time, it's not worth it, when all the money that goes into fixing it can pay the difference...

plus, i don't know how much we owe on the celica, i haven't talked to my dad yet.

so do i...i wish i could have started with the car i wanted...but at the age i was at, i didn't think about it and speak up, i just thought wow i'm getting a celica.

i'd rather have a car i am happy with, that i love, that doesn't cause me hassle sometimes...

the WRX is that, has everything i wanted...

I think i would part out the celica before i sold it, then take that money to put into the difference...

then just work for the WRX mods...first thing i would do is drop and rims.

ok
here

mullertoyota: 500x 44 or around 20,000 why

that's how much we owe on it...

so if i sell privately for over 20k, what happens??

and it would be about a 2000 dollar difference if i trade it in...right?

so how would it work now? grin

i must say...you are an incredible asset to this site. your information is always accurate and very prompt. but i have to side w/ Celica22 here...what happens when you get sick of the WRX after a year or two and want something else...i dunno just my $.02

VSGTS14:

500*44 is 22,000.

If you can trade it in for 18, you have 4K you owe. If the wrex is 26K, add on 4K more for 30K.

For 26K I assume you are just getting the WRX and not the STI right? Personally if I had to pay 30K I'd want an STI.

Best case, part it out sell it and cross your fingers.

When you trade in your car they contact the bank and see the balance. Then they will pay your car off for you plus give you the balance off ur new car if you owe less than the trade in value. Chances are with all the stuff done to your car and painted interier and whatnot...the trade in value will be lowwww.
In your scenerio...i would sell the car privatley..that way you can leave on all your mods, and get more money for your car. IMO someone would deff take out a loan to buy your car man.

Billy dont be Silly...

I wanted to trade in my GTS for an Rx-8 but I realized like so many other people have pointed out on this topic that it would be completely stupid for me to do so!! I owe about 14k on my 01 and I would be in the whole a lot of money. Its not worth it. Plus all the time and money I have spent on my car I have grown quite attatched to it.
what can i say i love my celica.

I say keep it!

i'm gonna see tonight...

i wouldn't get tired of WRX, it's the first car i wanted, i'm not tired of the celica...

i'm tired of the hassle of it with the shit i have done frown
i know, i put a lot of money and effort into it, but keeping it up takes time and i would be really happy with the WRX...

went to sccoby doo dealer today to see the exact one i wanted...it's so nice.

insurance would be less for a WRX.

if you owe less then its worth then you actually take more monwy off of the wrex's price, i would wait a while until it is in that situation, right now you owe too much thumbsdown

i know, i put a lot of money and effort into it, but keeping it up takes time and i would be really happy with the WRX...

went to sccoby doo dealer today to see the exact one i wanted...it's so nice.

yeah i wanted the WRX before the celica too but its just how things worked out and im happy with, i get to trot around in my friends 04 everyonce and a while(the guy that sold me the celica bought a WRX) but if its really what you want go for it
