After putting my rims on I had to figure out if they were under insurance coverage. Turns out Gieco covers mods up to $1,000. After that you have to fill out a form and i guess your insuance goes up. W/the rims and exhaust i just past the 1,000 mark. But i think i wont tell them not yet.

So are your mods insurned? U know just incase your car gets striped or stole? I see a lot of heavly modded cars on here.

Well being that I work as a claims adjuster for Travelers, I have your answer.

Things that are permanantly insured on your car, in a fixed position (ie: rims, stereo head unit), are automatically covered. Just keep the reciept.

Things that are not permanantly installed (subs, amps) are not covered automatically and should be listed. And yes there would be additional premium for them. But very little. Definetely worth insuring everything!

My car might be slow, but at least it looks nice!

thumbsup Exactly right.

BTW... the original poster doesn't need to worry about "not telling" the insurance company that the mods are over $1000. If they don't exceed the $1000 by much, it's not worth worrying about. They can't refuse to cover them just because you didn't inform them prior to a claim... they'll just cap the payout at the $1000 max if your mods exceeded that.

They might or might not be...you could easily take a pic of another car...same color and make as yours...say you had these rims...and they got stolen. Now maybe if you had something else in the photo...like your insurance agent tongue

my friend has a full veilside body kit and Giovanna rims on his 350z and all of it is insured, as well as his engine internals and his full system, and all he pays is $35 extra a month, for over $25,000 worth of mods.

Well in NY, it is mandated that you have a certified photo inspection done on a used or new vehicle, to show evidence of features, and exisiting damage if any. If on that photo, you indicate certain things that you have added, it can be used as additional evidence.

However, you just can't take a picture of you car at you house, and expect them to cover the items in the picture. Besides, that doesnt tell the insurance company what the item was worth, what make of the item and so forth so on. Reciepts are excellent, however, let it be known that if you have a custom paint job, you can expect it not covered unless you ask for it to be.

Why not call your insurance company and ask them?? What could it hurt?
