Celica Forums General Discussion General Decode CEL Manually?

Anyone here know how to decode the CEL on our 7th Gen Celicas? A friend sent this link, but it's for the 6th Gens. http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/error.htm

My CEL went on as I was going to take the car to a shop to look at my oil burning problem, so now I've got two problems. The first shop I went to said it's the emissions system, but I want to confirm before I leave my car with them for a few days to find out and fix my emissions problem (if it really is). They won't touch my oil burning problem w/out clearing the CEL first.

I've search this forum and google, but nothing yet...still searching. Any ideas?

i'd reset your ecu (unplug battery for 11 min, then plug back in) this (as stated) will reset ur ecu and all it's functions to see how properly things are running.

the CEL comes on for many reasons...(mine comes on when i change my own oil--which obviously isn't a 'problem'). and a lot of times the CEL comes on it's just telling you to take your car in for a checkup, etc. resetting it won't hurt your car--if there really is a problem it'll just pop back on. so if it does come back on then i'd consider taking it to a shop to see what the problem is. i'd also get a 2nd opinion before i left it somewhere.

Autozone will read and decode for free.

That's the thing they didn't tell me the code, just the symptoms. I'm taking it to a friends shop this morning to have both problems looked at.
