I went to Toyota to get an alignment today and they told me that I need all new struts before they do the alignment. They said stock struts would be $600.

So my questions are:

1. Is $600 a good price for stock struts?
2. Are there any good after market struts for around the same price range?
3. Are after market struts only for lowered vehicles? (I have stock springs)
4. Are struts and shocks the same thing?

If you know any good web sites for struts please post a link.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. smile

no this really happens, my mom put her rav4 in for a alignment and they said they wouldn't do it until she got new shocks and tires because it was an unsafe condition of the vehicle.

as for the $600.00 you can get TRD shocks and struts for that much ... so wtf is toyota talking about ?

BTW KYB makes TRD shocks and struts

The only reason you would need new struts are if yours are bad. You shouldn't have to replace them for an alignment. You might want to get clear on why you need new struts and so forth. 600 is a lot of money.

My car is over 2 years old and we have some bumpy roads in PA.

They did tell me that my struts were bad, and thats what caused my alignment to go bad.

Ill look into TRD struts. Where can I get them?

TRD shocks are not made by KYB. They are made by Billstein I believe.

As for $600, you can get a set of KONI Yellow Adjustables. Those are the best shocks you can get other than full setups.

Are these any good? I know its from ebay, but I only buy from power sellers, and this guy dose not have one negative feedback out of 420.

I also found these. They are Tokico Gas Shock/Struts from Rod Millen. Are these any good also?

I don't have much more to add that hasn't already been said, but first make sure that you need to get new struts in the first place (i.e. get a second opinion)

Second, they want $600 for oem struts? shocked They're on crack! Definitely go with TRD, tokico, or some other brand.. it'll probably wind up being cheaper than the oem struts.

OK, I'm about to buy a set of Tokico struts, and I have one more question. Is there a difference between GT and GTS struts?
