I don't think it matters, as long as it's in gear.
Anyways, I always put the car in gear and use the e-brake.
And I like to back into spots when I have time and room, and when I parallel park, I always back in. For some reason, it's the only reason I can get it straight.

No no no you guys got it all wrong, you gotta back into the spot and it doesnt matter if its in gear or neutral (i do neutral) and then after you back in you gotta turn the steering wheel to show of your rims
I pull through instead of backing in, since the space in front of me is always open too because I park in BFE on a regular basis with it in neutral and ebrake on.
If I have time, I back that ass up. If I don't, I just pull in head first. When I park, I use both the ebrake and 1st gear, you never know when your brakes could fail.

Be careful, a friend of mine did that at walmart without realizing there was one of those cement blocks between spots and took out his entire radiator .. I had to laugh, though.
I park on the other side of the lot. Put my auto in park and usually pull the ebrake too. My driving instructor made me do it and i just kinda got used to it.

Yeah, my instructor taught us the same thing.
Whenever I drive an auto, and park, I have to put the e-brake on or else I'll worry the whole time that the car can roll away.

i dont' leave mine in gear at all...just ebrake for me Inless i'm on a big hill
Same deal. When I took my driving test I actually got marked for putting my car in neutral when I parked, despite I had my e-brake on and we were on perfectly flat ground.
I thought maybe this thread was going to be about how do you park in a parking lot. Which I tend to park as far away as I feel is necassary and I have been known to take up any where from 2 - 4 spots..once six!

You're just asking for it if you take up multiple spots.

very good point
A boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything....Even a boat!
Always put it in neutral with ebrake because I got a CompuStar 2WSS Alarm/Remote Starter and it has to be in neutral so that "reservation mode" can be set. That's a safety feature so that the car can only be remote started in neutral because we know what would happen if started in gear. And I really don't care how I park (backing up as compared to pulling in). I just try to park away from other cars when possible to avoid any dings, dents, and scratches.
