Im looking to add some boost to my car and i want to design my own Turbo system . I was wondering what is an acceptable level of boost for a stock GT engine without sacrificing engine life . Also , as you go up in PSI , what are the first steps that should be taken in bulletproofing your engine ? like , "when you hit 20 psi you need to sleeve your block" any tips of that nature would be appreciated.

I'd say no more than 8 psi, if you want 10 psi, but dont use 10 as daily driving, dont go no more than 6 for daily driving with out internals, to "bulletproof" it, get new vavles, valve springs, valve retainers and cams. To go the extra distance, get new rods and pistons (8.8:1).
This is all that i'm in the process of doing, all that i mentioned, im also getting the SF Turbo and a boost controller, so that for daily driving, i can leave it with 4-6 psi, and then for racing, i can bump it up from 8-18, whatever i want. I am still deciding on either getting the bored out 8.8:1 compression pistons or jsut getting stock size 8.8:1 compression, i might go with the bored out though. Also if you can, go with a new crankshaft, but as far as i know though, the only company who makes them is brashboy, and there expensive, so might want to wait for other companies to amke them for cheaper.
Also, on Monkeywrench.com, get the ARP bolts too, just to be on the safe side!!

thanks for the reply , what are you using to control boost ? i was considering using the apexi power FC . do you know if that is all you would need to run the system or do you need a Turbo timer ? or are they the same thing ? any clue on HP gain with 6-8 psi boost?

the apexi power fc is not a boost controller, i think thats the ecu for the celi, im not sure with the names, but go with blitz boost controller, thats what im using, the Turbo timer, is so when you turn ur car off, it will still run, for the alloted time. THis is so that car can warm up with out you forgetting to idle. With 6-8 psi for a Turbo on stock internals, id say about 80, sf Turbo at 8 psi, is at 120, off of stock 140, soooooo. But you can get more, they have a garret Turbo in there kit, and they say it can go up to 18psi, thats why im gonna push up to 16, maybe 18, on days that i feel crazy!!
