Hi Everyone,

Someone ran a red light and totaled the rear end of my celica yesterday. frown Do you guys think the car is a total loss based on the picture? If you do does anyone know how much insurance would pay for a 2003 GTS with 7400 miles in perfect condition with 6MT, leather, and action package?

Thanks!

depends if the frame is messed up or not. if the frame is just a little bent then they can still fix it, but if the frame is way out of wack, then just part it out and look for a new car

Considering it's a 2003, it's probably not totalled because the value of the car is still pretty high (compared to the cost of repairing it).

But as they said, only time will tell for sure the full extent of the damage.

Sorry bro. frown

IMO it looks really bad. the rear axle is bent and the whole left rear quater panel is gone. If it is fixed i doubt it'll feel the same again. sorry to say it but it's the truth.

You're right: it might never drive the same again. But as for totalling it.. idunnothe damages would have to exceed the cost of the car. And since his car is so new, that'd have to be pretty high.

If you have a decent company to deal with, it's gonna be totaled. If the axel is bent that much, I'm assuming there is other structural damage. Ever seen a car driving down the road in a straight line, with the back end crooked? That's what this thing would look like if they "fixed" it.

I'd rip everything of value out of there and pray they total it.

In reality that isn't that bad at all. No where near a total I bet the lower suspension and the sub frame are fine.

it will be expensive, no doubt, but I don't think it would cost more than replacing a 2003 celica.

Dont jump to conclusions, my wheel was bent as his was and all it was a lower control arm. (May not be the case since this is the back...but who knows) Not an axle. Looks can be deceiving.

Sorry to hear man. frown It does look bad. cry

I keep seeing people saying rear axle. The celi doesn't have a rear axle, does it? confused

I thought the back tires were just kinda hanging there???

Edit...Yeah...I was right. laughsilly Check out how the wheels are attached.

Ouch.. sorry to hear bout that. I guess you don't have replacement cost insurance eh? Around here you can get insurance that if the car gets stolen (perhaps even a bad accident) that the insurance company will actually replace the vehicle with a brand spanking new one, but it's limited for like a couple years and then after the vehicles a certain age it's no good.

Thanks for asking, but yeah I'm ok...just the car isn't! frown Sounds like from all the replies that I'm pretty much stuck with a half broken car after it's fixed or they'll total it, but will probably only get blue book which is around $20k, so that still means I'm out about $7.5k from what I paid for the car. Sucks to be paying for other people's stupidity. But I guess that's life.

Eh, you're only out the amount of depreciation. Technically, the reason they do that is so you can go out and buy the exact same car. Meaning the same year and mileage as the one you total. Of course, most people have this weird thing where they consider their car with 10k miles "new" and a car someone else is selling with 10k miles "used" spineyes

BTW, everything here people are saying about totaled or not totaled is total guessing. You can never tell just looking at a car, because body pieces are the cheapest part to fix. When I crashed with my last car, they had to replace every body piece from the door forward, plus the wheels. Still only cost 4k to fix.

What insurance company did you have and how much damage was done to your car in comparison to the pic of mine? I paid about $26k or so because of all the stuff like LoJack, Alarm, Leather, etc. High blue book says the car is worth almost $21k, but still...that's a loss of $5k for 7 months of driving the car.

Well it should be under insurance anyways right. So even if you have trouble in the long run due to the accident, insurance will cover it as long as your mechanic can prove it's from that accident and not something that can occur in the long run. It's all a matter of whether you can withstand such annoyance of POSSIBLY bringing the car back for slight problems every now and then.

Yeah...I gotta agree. I got GAP insurance when I got my GT...its just not worth it. My insurance company would take care of me the same way. Why pay twice?

Gap insurance is worthwhile if you can't afford a higher downpayment.

If you buy a Celica, a year later it's upside down, and if it gets totalled, you owe the money.

With gap insurance, you can just walk away.

I would never buy a car without getting gap insurance.
My bf totalled my integra and they only gave me so much for it and I ended paying out of pocket-meaning i was paying two cars payments (till I paid off the balance on the integra) after I got a new car. It sucked!

Which is why I said put a higher down payment OR [if you can't do that] buy a less expensive car (a used celica, perhaps).

In the long run, you're just paying tons of money for a SECOND insurance, on top of your regular insurance, not to mention all the money you're already wasting on interest on your loan.

GAP Insurance is too much. So rather than buy a new car and $200 for GAP, it would be better to buy a used car cause you can't afford the extra $200. :whatever:

All insurance is a rip-off.
1). They never have losses, they recoup that by raising premiums.
2). They ONLY have their own interests at heart.
3). You are required by law to have it.
Its a big no-risk can't lose racket if you're the insurance company.
