Well, flat spotted my drivers side front tire. It's a Yoko ES100. There is about 25% tread left on the flat spot and the rest of the tire is rather new, only about 500 miles and 1 AX on it. What can I do about it? I can't replace it for 2 weeks for $$ reasons. But I'd still like to autocross this sunday on them. Would it be best to keep it on the front and try to wear it down and autocross on it? Or do you think given the FWD I wear out an important bearing or joint with it? Is the tire saveable or should I just rotate it and get a new one ASAP.

Rotate it - for ultimate traction you would want a new one, but it will be much less of an issue on the rear.

stick it in the rear and just wait two weeks to buy a new tire.

Well, after I did it I felt around the tire and felt the warm, slightly flat spot. If I turn the wheel and look at the tread the tire around the spot is still at newish tread depth and then the flat spot is about 1/16" deep in the middle and a bit more tread depth on the outside. It's hard to miss and you can feel it isn't perfectly round.

That's what I wanna know. Do you just want it replaced because it bothers you since you know it's there? Or do you really feel a difference in driving? Like NorwayGT said, it could be a manufacturer defect. And even if it's not, you should take it back to the shop and say it is. They might believe you and you'll be hooked up for free. grin

How did you get a flat spot?

A while back I was doing 55 on the highway & I had to slam on the brakes, so I slid for a while and left these huge skid marks. When I got home, I checked the front wheels & there wasn't any damage on them, no flat spots, no nothing & the car still feels the same idunno

No, it's not a manufacturing defect, wasn't there until that day. Yes, I can feel it, it's kind of like I was rolling over a small dip in the road every few feet but it only comes from the corner of the car the tire is on. And I got it by getting a little enthusiastic on my road to work. It is a bit less than half a mile long and runs along side of railroad tracks to my work and a power plant. I was going 95 when I did and and for some reason didn't pick it up because it was only that wheel that locked. The one day I have the music loud too and I miss hearing that. When I felt the car get a big unsettled I let off and the wheel started rolling again and it was very apparent what I did. It was my own stupidity, and all for a bit heavy right foot. I'll see if I can get some pictures of it. My camera is crappy so I don't know how well it will show up.
