Ok, I have a 2002 Celica GT (auto). It's fully paid for, but I'm desiring a new car. I want to sell it to buy a slightly used Supra TT 6-spd. I have an offer on the table for someone to buy my car, if I decide to sell. That would give me about $15k. I could add in a couple thousand from my personal accounts. I'd have to finace about $10k. Not to mention my insurance premiums will go up about $300 every six months for a 98 Supra. If you had access to the Supra, would you give up the Celica? Don't get me wrong, I love my car. And I love that my parents bought it for me for graduation two years ago. But I want something to build on to take to the tracks and the dyno. Something I can really monitor progress with power gains. My celica just isn't cutting it!

Would you sell?

Depends on your situation.

A high HP supra is NOT a daily driver. You'll need to have it tuned, and very very very well taken care of.

With in increase in Performance, or if you run the car at the threshold, comes added maintenance/care.

If you can afford the supra, and a beater for the daily stuff, do that.

It would suck to have to drive a 600HP supra over to the store to pick up groceries or a prescription

IMO, moving from a used car to another used car is kinda silly. If you do sell your celica, buy a new car.

Used to used isn't silly... but going from an '02 model to a 98 is. You have to look at it as a practical matter. You're going to trade an ultra-dependable car (celi) for something that will CERTAINLY require tons of repairs (heavily modded supra).

If you are going to drop that sort of coin and want power, there are certainly safer options. 350z, STi, Evo, the list goes on...

how much you getting the supra for? btw they can be daily driven if he's a good driver. just set it to low boost (it'll still haul ass but not as much). are you mechanically inclined or have friends who are?

going from '01 (or whatehver year it was) to '98 is NOT in itself a bad idea btw.

it'll come down to is the supra worth the xtra money and effort and if you can afford it. how much do you make and what are you expenses?

First off, I love my car. However, it's not like I just have wads of cash pouring out of my pocket. Getting the Supra would take some work. But I think it would be a wise investment.

I want one that is low mileage. And since it is a Toyota, Turbo or not, it is still a well built engine capable of lasting a long time. I don't plan to do anything drastic so soon that would require it to be hassle to drive. But, having become well read on Supra drivers info, it's not that far fetched to have an 800 hp machine that is a daily driver and is reliable. Believe me, I'd much rather keep the Celica, AND get the Supra, but that just ain't happening.

I'm not a mechanic or anything. My father is mechanically inclined with cars. He'd be my special helper. And no, I don't have Supra I'm eyeballing right now. I'm searching, and the price cap is $30k for a LOW mileage supra without a single mod.

I'd prefer a new car also...especially when your dumping that much money into it.

Beyond that... you could get FASTER cars for that 30k. You could get a fairly nice Vette for that.

The Supra would be awsome, but a warning.. becareful as it's well known for people to buy a MKIV and then dump A LOT of money into it, but then again this is a '98 so hopefully it will be in tip-top condition.

Even if it does have 600bhp that doesn't matter, your only problem will be making sure you don't drive it so hard with all that power and hurt yourself, wear the parts down faster and gas consumption as there are a good number of high HP MKIV's that are used as daily drivers.

I'd say go for it, hell I'd do the same thing but the insurance and repairs are too much right now.. I know a guy who bought a 93.5 and had to buy new Turbo's for it and dumped other money into it and he's selling it and for a great price.

Hmm... I think about sellin the celi only to get the Lexus IS 300 That car is getting a lot of exposure with the mods and supra part swapping going on plus it's a four door, looks pimp and it's rear-wheel. isn't that what you really want?
