What do you think would be a reasonable price and result for a basic bolt-on turbo set up on a gt?
Is there any out yet on the market to `cash and carry`, if yes, how much is it? What are the results?
(like 2k$ for 50 hp? or?)

i estimate about 3800-4000 to get you up to 220 horses. there is a kit that is out, but not being massed produced at the moment. check it out at http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=0e18d7d11dc7aca734bef6256cb2ecd3&threadid=77915

3800-4000 220 horses???? glitch.. I luv ya man, but I have to burst your bubble... the BEST we could hope for is around 190hp, on top of that, this kit ran around 12K.. I know about this one, and I ruled it out right off, because for 10K I could sell my celcia and just get a S2000 (which I like the looks of almost as much). Right now, the only turbo kits out there for the GT are over 8K. I have done a boatload of looking and can't find ANYONE who will cutom turbo for under 6K (and from what I hear anyone who SAYS they will do it that cheap, will end up costing more than twice that by the time the car runs again because they don't know what they are doing). Only chance of forced induction right now is getting sponsored (like anna did). I am just going to wait, and wait, and wait for the TRD Supercharger.

I have A Ford Ranger, they have nothing for it, and i can custom build a Twin Turbo Kit, for $3000. Something can't be right here, Why are they so expensive for a SPORTS car?

12k !! shocked shocked from what source did you get this FX ? listen... you may be right about the horsepower being under 200, but you need to show me where you got this price!!! stafford did a similar turbo kit for the 1zz-fe matrix, and it only came out to about $3800 tops. the only thing different is the piping configuration because of the celica's limited space under the hood. so that's why i guessed around 3k to 4k. jeezus... 12k shocked we're not talking mike lu here rofl cheers

making it fit under our hood is rough, plus, unlike a truck (designed for pulling and low end power), the celica GT was not designed for high torque, it has shitty plastic intake ports, it has shitty, weak, low compression piston rods, and the engine bay is cramped AS IS.. so dealing with just finding the space for a turbo is rough. So far, I have not seen a successful turbo or supercharger on a GT celica for less than 10K.. which is pissing me off because, like glitch, that's the reason I bought a GT over a GTS, I was TOLD that if I wanted real power in a celica (which I love the look of) to buy a GT and turbo or supercharge it, and for about the same price as a GTS I would end up with 200hp. So I got one and come to find out that only a few people have been successful with forced induction, and they are ALL sponsored and ALL of them speant a boatload of cash to do it. I budgeted 6K and found out it WASN'T ENOUGH to turbo or supercharge. So far it looks like the best bet is to wait and see if TRD makes their VVT-i matrix supercharger fit under out hood. Otherwise, I am just gonna have to suck it up for 3 years then sell my GT and get something with some power.

PS.. I sincerely hope someone proves me wrong, if ANYONE can super or turbo a celica GT for 4K or less, I will be the happiest SOB on the planet... so far though.. not 1 person has successfully pulled it off.

www.newcelica.org [newcelica.org] david draper is almost done and his gt turbo will be released pretty soon. plus it looks like quality was put into it, seeing how long he worked on it and tuned it and stuff...
PS. there are a few more people on the forced induction part of that site that are making turbos, forgot who they were (so busy reading up on the David Draper thread). check it out...

Personally, for a stage one turbo, it shouldn't be over 3,500 dollars. But that's celicas for ya'. If it don't say honda or eclipse, no manufacture wants to chance pricing it too low. (ex, not enough sales)

12K for a turbo?

Why not just take the entire engine out, throw it away, and install a V8 truck engine and super charge that thing.

450HP celica... grin grin

Yeah, that probably won't work.

Draper kit is the WC toyota in Cali. I am waiting to hear back from them right now. I told them I wanted the kit and asked for an update on when it will be out. I'll post info when I hear back. What I got so far is that it's a safe 6psi boost kit, so we won't need any engine mods in addition to the kit, and that you don't have to move much around to make it fit. 6psi should put us in the 200whp range (which is 50whp more than a stock GTS thumbsup )

so why is the turbo still on the WC toyota web site.. and why is Ken Draper still posting on other boards for WC toyota advertising the WC turbo? They are sponsors of the board that I got the turbo info from..

hehe... I know man.. I know... I am looking at both the kit you mentioned above and the David Draper kit. The one you are looking at LOOKS much better under the hood though. From the photos it looks like the stock manifold is still on there too (DD kit replaces the manifold with a custom header that the turbo is attached to).. With the kit you are looking at, it looks like MIGHT be able to keep my hotshot. Depends on where they stick the turbo, I am betting from the looks of the images it's cut into the downpipe, not the header. Do you know? It would be nice to be able to keep the hotshot.

Hey People,

How about if someone who was succesfull with his turbo project would offer us the same kit he has got? He has the expirience, and can proove with the dyno. We also know the Hp gain is up to the Psi. So stage 1 is up to ~50 Hp, Stage 2 is ~50-80 when we have to replace rods and stage 3 is over ~80Hp when we have to replace rods, pistons, gaskets, injectors, fuel pump, etc.. . It`s much easier to make the second one than the first. Just give us a qote.
I promise if my project is succesfull I let you know how much was it, I estimate not to go over 3k anyway. (If I f..ck up also let you know.) I really see there is a need for it, I don`t understand why just someone make turbo kits for order at least, after they made one.
Is that rubish?

DOH!!!!!!!!!!! ok.. well I can sell the hotshot locally at least I know about 45 celica ownders in the local club.. maybe I won't even put it on.

Stafford and Draper's kit sound nose to nose, I am going to have to decide. I like the fact that stafford is totally ready to go with mass production, he is just holding out for his fuel mannagement pattent to go through (which means he has done something worth pattenting, and I like that even better smile ).

Does stafford have a price yet? I was going to go N/A because I never thought the turbo would come out. I think I will wait and see the results from FXMAN and some others. That will lead me to the direction I want to go. If I start saving, by the time you guys get results, I will have enough for the turbo, or whatever else. Supposedly Crower is coming out with cams around July. This is sweet. Peace

I spoke with David Draper for about an hour on the phone today.. Really nice guy. Sounds like he has it all together, his turbo is the Audi A4 Quattro 1.8 liter turbo with custom piping being produced by Injen. The turbo Replaces the exhaust manifold, and the intercooler is under the front bumber. The kit looks pretty sharp, and they are doing a "stealth" version of the turbo using the stock intake, and black pipeing. You don't really notice it with the engine bay open unless you really know what you are looking for, the pipes will also come in Injen Red and Blue as well on request. The kit comes with an ECU piggy back AFC with a laptop interface pre-programmed for optimal safe fuel levels at various RMPs and safe engine temps, they are at 200hp at the WHEELS, with 6psi of boost on the GT.. The kit goes into production in mid june (they need to get the injen piping ready for mass production, and are making a custom wire harness so you don't need a good electrical guy with the install). The kit comes with new injectors. He also said that it's not totally necessary but reccomends getting a boost gaugue, and exhaust temp gauge just to monitor everything and a turbo timer so the turbo can cool. Other than that he said the kit is about a 6 hour install at the most for an average mechanic.

The only drawback was that they are not CARB approved yet, so I am planning to wait because of that, but I thought you guys might want to have the info..

He also said, you DO NOT need ANY additional engine upgrades.. but you will almost certainly wear out your clutch a little faster. THAT'S IT though he laughed when I mentioned new piston rods, he said you really only need that if you plan to double the boost this turbo has. Which in his opinion is a very bad idea, he doesn't think the engine would handle it even with the upgrades and siad it's just not worth it you would have heat and fuel management issues with much more than 10psi.. 200hp AT THE WHEELS on a car as light as a celica GT is all the power you would want anyway, and more and you wouldn't have enough traction to keep control IMO. You would beat the A4, and the WRX. No sweat.

crap.. forgot the most important part! The Draper kit will be $3500 if you purchase in June, price MAY go up after that, since he is only making a certain number of the custom manifolds, and he is concerned that he will need to charge more once he needs to stock them all the time.

so apparently, the competition has already begun. mr. stafford quoted another customer that he'd sell his kit for $2900 as a group buy (5 - 10 people), and 3000 for individual purchase. that is pretty damn cheap shocked

Yeah man, that sounds good! Price and Power looks good. I`m a bit sad that a year 2000 gt can only be turboed in 2003. I`m finishing my project anyway (bought the pieces allready), cos did not trust them make it soon.
