For about a year and a half a nasty little hole has been getting bigger and bigger on the front driver's side next to the bottom of the console. I'm not sure what caused the original hole, but it gets nastier and nastiers.

I have floormats and take care of my car, even bought a plastic hook that keeps the floormat in place, but I still know that the little bastard of a hole is there. I thought about buying one of those diamond plates for the floorboard to cover it up, but I think the hole is too close to the console and it may not help at all. Any sugggestions?

I have heard of kits to fix stuff like this, but I'm skeptical about them. I've looked for a total replacement carpet, but most places don't have the newer models yet.

thanks,
brad

a patch will look ugly.

the only real thing you can do to fix it is to recarpet it. if you can't get the carpet from toyota itself (ask a dealer), you should try and find someone who can do it custom.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to avoid having to get it from Toyota at all costs because I'm sure its through the roof. Most of the aftermarket places I've seen offer replacments for around $130, but like I said they don't have any newer models.

Toyota Celica Carpets are $70 from any local dealership

having a hole in your driver's side carpet is normal with ANY vehicle... just face it - its going to happen at one time or another... UNLESS you take the steps to prevent it.

Swing by a luxury vehicle and check how they've solved the problem spineyes they placed thick, tough plastic where your heel sits - just between the brake and acceleration pedals.

it could just be time for you to upgrade your floor mats - if you do allot of driving, its normal for floor mats to need replacement every year or every 3 years...etc

i guess NOW you know why Target / Walmart / Pepboys / Autozone...etc ALL dedicate one whole isle to just floor mats wave

I'm talking about the entire carpet piece here, not the floor mats. The floor mats are fine, its the big ass hole in the carpet that is the problem. You're talking about the actual carpet itself?

Full carpet from Toyota Dealership: $550.50. That's an expensive hole. Fark!

i detect that someone didnt take care of the problem when they first thought they had a problem grin

a word of advice, if your transmission starts to go... dont keep driving it for another 6 months, take care of it at the first sign wave

and here's another BRILLIANT idea for you... just buy floor mats

floor mats are used to cover and protect your floors in high traffic areas - or in the case of automobiles, they keep your floor upholstery clean and extend the life of them from wear and tear. Floor mats can also be used to cover/hide floor upolstry that is already damaged due to being soiled or mis-cared for.

And even a more brillaint idea, read posts before you respond! grin

I have always had floor mats, and am not interesting in how well to hide the problem, but with how to fix it. But thanks for the brilliant advice. wink

go to your local fabric store.
purchase similar style material to what's already in your car.
now go to your car and clean up the hole you've made in your carpet but cutting a close shape around the area.
cut your new material into that same shape that you've just cut from your floor.
now grab some glue and glue the material into that hole you designed in your floor where the old hole was.

same technique can be used for patching holes with grass in your lawn - or cigarette burns in furniture/upholstery grin

the other alternative is to do what I've suggested above and just lay down floor mats (thats what there intended usage is for)

I have a hole in my carpet about the size of a quarter. Depending on the size of the hole in your carpet you might want to try what I did. I cut a piece of carpet under the gas pedal (no need for fabric stores and finding a match because it's the same carpet). You can't notice the cut carpet under there and it isn't glued or attached down so just cut a piece big enough. Match the cut piece to the shape of existing hole, use some real good tough glue, a little bit of weight and a book or magazine and hole gone. I had to trim the plastic on the underside of the replacement piece and slightly fray the edges to make it neat. It's as close to perfect as you are going to get without replacing the whole floor. Just be careful with the vacuumings. It should hold up for a while. If it's coming off or looks ragged in the future just try it again. There's enough spare carpet under the brake, gas, and clutch pedals for several years or tries.

Word! grin LOL thats what I was looking for, no cost and a little ingenuity! I'll definitely give that a try, even though mine's the size of a silver dollar! Thanks.
