i just started painting my interior pieces this afternoon. i used the exact candy red paint that isacc had in the install section(cant remember the brand name right now). absolutly turned out like shit. paint had air bubbles all over it and was extremely spotty. fortunatly i had just done the tweeters, the window control, and they came out ok, but when i did the gauge bezel it was horrible. what was i doing wrong??????? i'm prolly jsut gonna go over it with a straight red now after sanding it all down.

would you sand and use the candy again or just the straight red?

I don't understand why you got the bubbling.. did you put it on too thick?

sounds like you painted too much for one coat...

you need A LOT of really thin coats of paint, applied every 15 mins approx.

you can also get that on there by cleaning it with something silicon based like armor all. If you ever clean with any of that stuff, before you paint it you need to used a degreaser and clean the hell out of it, i work at a body shop and thats a high priority, after eating anything or touching something oily, you always have to wash up. That sounds like it could have been one of the problems if you sprayed a light coat and it still happened. I have the same paint right now and i can put a nice sized coat on and it will not bubble on me, just can't go overboard.

i kno this sounds like a no brainer but make sure the paint is mixed well weither it be spray paint or regular stuff. if it is not mixed right it always comes out real shitty.

Use duplicolor. It will give you a nice selection of colors, and it's great paint... i swear by it. You're going to need to sand down what you've already done, and prime over it.

Did you prime it to begin with? If not, you probably had the effect called "fish eyes". That's when the surface tension of the paint will pull it away from a high point on the surface you're painting ( a speck of dust on it can cause this too)

Go get yourself a good red paint, and a good primer and clearcoat, then follow the instructions that i posted in my paint guide.

Good luck to you, if you need any other help, feel free to drop me a PM. I work at a sherwin-williams store, so you could say that i know a little about painting.

It is also good before you paint to spray surface with an adhesive promoter, it helps the paint stick better and it goes on clear this worked the best for me.

think it would work to wrap them in plastic for the time being??

couldn't hurt, except that you might melt it from the engine heat, depending on what you're using.

Don't give up on painting. It took me awhile to get it right. Just take your time.

Sounds to me like you did not clean everything like you should have, if you use ARMOUR ALL on your interior and then you don't clean it very good before painting than the paint will bubble or you will get fish eyes everywhere.
