it might be the result of a defect in a mechanism within the gas tank. there was a recall, you should've gotten something in the mail.

contact your local dealer (you'll need your VIN) to see if yours needs to be inspected.

yeah, there was a recall, i dont know all the info about what year celi's it was for, but i have a 03 gt, and they fixed my gas tank prob, i would fill up and the trigger wouldnt stop the gas on time and it would flush out all the time,(not good the the paint i might add) or it wouldnt let me fill anymore knowing that i could fit more, but it works fine now, contact toyota for more info!!

^ I don't know what all years were involved, but I, too, have a '03 and got it fixed under warranty.

The Celicas got one of those systems on it to stop people syphoning fuel. You have to pull the nozzle almost all the way out and then pull the trigger, otherwise it will click off. Its a nuisance at first, but you get used to it in no time. You have to keep a close eye on the nozzle, which means you have to be careful when looking round for smart women that it doesn't spill out on your feet.

NO NO NO.. it should never spill out on your feet. If it is, that's probably a symptom of the malfunction I described above, and you should have it checked out by your dealer.

I spilled (by spill I mean a few feeble splashes) it because the nozzle was out too far. My own fault. Definitely no problem with my tank.

My tank is never very full. I'll put 10 pounds worth in, which is around 12 or 13$ and I'll do around 70 miles. Its fucking useless. Petrols just gone up again too. I'll be getting a diesel at this rate.

Just seems less painful putting smaller amounts in at a time. Toyota recommends that it never gets below 1/4 full, for obvious reasons with the junk at the bottom of the tank. But I figured cause my car is new, theres no junk down there yet. I've been planning on keeping it above 1/4 full now for a while, but I haven't got round to it. As it stands now, cars in the garage with no bars left on the gauge. Not sure if it'll get to the filling station this time

I'd say about $5 idunno

I usually fill my tank to the top, which costs me around $20 .. and I think I drive about 400 miles or so (maybe a little more) on that tank of gas.

Perhaps that is not your intent; yet, just the same, many would take it as such.

that's because we pay about $1.60 here for gas as opposed to $5 as most european countries.

it's really just a tax question. europeans tax the crap out of gas. they average about $5 a gallon.

Yep, but what I meant is that it's not as much of a burden as one might think (living in america, where we drive much further to our jobs, to visit people, etc.)

Yeah, it's pretty nice to have such cheap fuel. I lived in japan for two years and it was insane. Not only is the gas REALLY expensive, but you pay a an annual licensing fee that is based on the size of your engine. If you're driving a V8, you're very very wealthy laughsilly
