Hey guys, I was just looking around at Intakes (The usual AEM and Injen) but was wondering about the K&N Typhoon Intake for our Celica's. I know K&N is a great company. Does anybody have the K&N short ram or the cold air Intake? How well does it work? One more question, at their website, K&N Typhoon Intake [knfilterchargers.com], it says that the GT CAI is only for the 5-speed(scroll to the bottom and click on vehicle applications)I was wondering if anybody knew the reason behind this? Thanks!
i have the typhoon short ram Intake n when i talked with the maintance guys at toyota they said its the 1 with the most gains 15 - 20 n you definatly notice a difference between it n the stock n its only like 250 so in my opinion its the best there is as far as Intakes

I've had my K%N CAI since summer and I love it. I noticed a big difference over just having exhaust. It comes with a slightly water proof cover that fits over the filter like a glove. Haven't dynoed it yet, but from what I've been told it produces about 7hp. Here's some pics of my Silver K&N Typhoon cai:
and the dirty ass filter. It has the "air horn" on top.
Does the Injen heat shield fit on the K&N short ram??
????????? anyone
you can use the rmm heatshield..it doesnt attach to the shortram at all (attaches in the engine bay..you only need to worry about your filter fitting in the hole..which it most likely will).

7 whp? maybe--and ONLY if it's been retuned. if you just bolted it on your looking at about 2-3 horses.
Just wanted to point something out too, I have had my K&N for over a year and have not had one check engine light or anything to that tune. I laugh when I see all these guys on here complaining about a CEL. I just put mine on and drove, no probs.

Plenty of people with injen and aem have had no CEL either.

Damn someone beat me to it with the pix. I had to buy a wrench set and bolt on one of the bolts I forgot to attach (oopps) to one of the brackets when we installed it. Now it's dark out, so I'll have to take pix another time. BTW. I got the red finish, so just imagine those pix with a red pipe on a Silver cely.
^ yeah, what he said. Nice Intake, but no way do you have 7hp increase from an Intake alone
I know what you mean, just stating what I've been told. They probably don't mean top end anyway. They might mean somewhere along the powerband there's a 7 hp gain, but that's just an idea.
Another thing, does the AEM only have a single bend? Cause from what I've learned the Typhoon's advantage is that is a single bend, which results in less turbulence
