ok so i wanted to get my car lowered(2inches) but my parents said no because they talked to people at les schwab(i think) and said that it really wears away your tires tread. Since they knew this, i cant get my car lowered now. Is this true? does it really mess up your car. i need to convince them that its ok. thanks!

yes it does wears out ur tires quicker, but you can get a camber kit to fix that problem.

The only reason i cant lower my car rite now is that i wont be able to go up my driveway. angry

the only way it will wear your tires any faster then stock is if your stupid and do not purchase a camber correction kit, other than that it will be just the same but a little lower. camber being the tires perpendicularness(word or not???) to the road, if you lower it your tires will slant inwords and youll run on the insides of the treads(that will wear tires) with a correction kit it will make them level again. try that, good luck thumbsup


just be carefuul around potholes and bottoming out cry

i believe they are around the area of 60-120 bucks (i could be wrong my car came with one)

if you dont drop it too much, you wont need camber links. all you need is an alignment, and you're set.

For hotchkis springs (even though they are a 1.8" drop) they do recomend you adjust your camber.

camber links fix that problem...and don't lower it that much then and you won't have it.

Well, in the front camber does not change much since it is a macpherson setup. The back is a double wishbone setup and the more the wheel gets closer to the body the more camber it gets. While this is good for stock height for cornering, once you lower the car it starts with more camber and hense more inner tire wear. As stated the camber links and an alignment will get it in check and it will take care of the camber. Only thing is, you're tire tread will probably still wear out quicker because you'll be enjoying the better handling of the car smile

i just learned this the hard way. i had camber links but i was too lazy to install them. now i need to rear tires after 2000 miles. eek this sucks
but i just bought 4 bridgestone fuzions zr1's

but no celly for 2 days. i gotta borrow a 04 grandprix from my dad till my tires come in.

just tell your parents its your car and you should be free to do what you want,unless of course they are paying for it, either way tell them youll be safe and if lowering a car was so dangerous why do thousands and thousands of people do it

Camber kit is a waste of money. I have Eibach Sporlines, and I didn't need a camber kit. All you need a good alignment. A good alignment shop will be able to correct your neg. camber back to factory spec. I have my shop adjust the front to -0.1. A little bit of negative camber will help with handling. And since it just a little bit, it won't wear out your tires. I have been driving on the current set of Toyo FZ4 for over a year now. The tires are wearing out evenly.

How the tires wear really depend on driving conditions, driving habits, and the quality of the tires. To say that lowered cars wear out tires faster is ridiculous, IMO.

BTW, if you want to spend $300 on a Hotchkis camber kit, go for it. It is your money and it definitely wouldn't hurt to have it. But, that's money that could be spent somewhere else. smile

Yeah, the stock rear camber links are adjustable.

yup. four wheel computerized alignment cost me $65. And you have to get an alignment anyway if you change out your springs.
