I think my clutch may be slipping...
When I pin the throttle, I see my RPM's jump, but it seems like it takes a few seconds for the clutch to fully engage, then I can feel the car pulling. All I have installed right now for power is the skunk2 Catback...

Is stock clutch notorious for being week?

Nope stock clutches are strong and can handle decent power upgrades. either you ragged on it to hard or you like to ride the clutch or the previouse owner mistook the clutch for the brake grin. also what size rims do you have? remember the bigger the rim the more power it takes to make the rims move.

go about 45mph in 5th gear, then slam the gas. If your rpms go up before you start to increase speed then your clutch is slipping.

Rims won't have anything to do with clutch wear, unless they weigh a hundred pounds each. Even though they are bigger, that doesn't mean that they are harder to turn, that just means that they won't make as many revolutions over a given period of time as the stock wheels.

Stock clutch can handle more torque than the Celica can put down, so it is strong and reliable if driven right.

It could be possible that your clutch is going out if the previous driver burnt and rode it a lot.

Once it start to give out at higher RPM's, you need a new clutch ASAP. I just got my new one installed, and cost me 300 dollars, but if you have to pay the dealership to do it, it will cost you around 1000 dollars, so get as much out of this clutch as you can.

they sold me my celica when i had a slipped clutch...it was just that i never drove a standard til that and i didnt know better...then when i let my friend drive it who has been driving standards for awhile...he told me the clutch was slipped...so dont always think that the dealerships will sell something to you perfect...cuz when you bring it back to them to fix it...they get even more money and they will rip you a new one

True that bought my car 2000 GTS from dealership last may with 22,000 miles on it and ..now at 34,000 I had to replace my clutch assembly, and flywheel the works..and it was not cheap $500 for install, but I was the 4th owner of my car lol and now I have the RPS Max Series Clutch with street disc and Trd light weight flywheel so I am happy.

Try this to check if your clutch is screwed

Put the car on the handbrake.
Put the car in first gear.
rev to about 3000-3500 rpms
let the clutch come up.
It should stall your engine, if not, your clutch is bad.

Don't to this too long, it's not that good for your clutch smile

I was in your boat ..and I went with the RPS Max Series Clutch with HD Pressure plate and Street Disc and Iam a daily driver ...but now when I want to I can open it up..best money I ever spent! Also would recommend that if you were going to ever get a flywheel get one now since they can put it one when they do the Clutch.. Also look around for instal prices had mine done at dealership and it was like f*cking $500. You can get the clutch Iam talking about from Modacar [modacar.com] or where I got it Intense Motorsports [intensepower.com] they were really cool and helped me out since I needed mine ASAP!

Where are you going for auto work?

Install will range from 800-900 dollars. It's an 8 hour job.

No, it is not covered under your warranty. They could do it under good will, but I doubt it.

Install is around 900 dollars as stated above. I'd buy the factory clutch, because the ACT will wear a lot faster, and it costs more.

Besides, that ACT can handle way more power than the Celica can put down.

Bigger isn't always better.

You want a clutch that holds what your car puts down, and not 100 or so foot pounds more.

The factory clutch is your best bet, unless you are pushing over 175 pounds of torque to the wheels, which I seriously doubt.

I don't have an ACT clutch installed...I was just calling around one day for quotes, and that's what this one dude told me it would cost. I guess now, he was totally lying...I dunno confused

Either way, I stayed with my stock clutch grin

i hear nothing but good things about ACT street clutch...i researched on the site and most people get it and are satisfied w/ it ...and might as well go aftermarket...it will be better than stock...unless it's bad to put aftermarket clutches but every1 does so ...

I'm not saying that ACT clutches aren't good parts, because I'm positive that they are. My friend and I had one in our old Camaro.

I'm saying that having a clutch in your car that has more clamping power than you need will wear your clutch much faster, and there is no need to buy a clutch that holds up to 200 lbs of torque when your Celica puts down less than 120.

It's overkill, and it's bad for your clutch.

also i've been ddoing research...and some people don't like aftermarket flywheels b/c theres no lift or harder to land in lift...that a big problem b/c then i read that theres better throttle response..better acceleration...etc...just want some input...

A lighter flywheel will make your RPM's rise and fall faster. This is good for accelerating purposes, but if you have a GTS, after you shift, you want your RPM's to fall as little as possible so that you can land back in lift.

With a lighter flywheel, it will be harder to do if not impossible.

When you get your clutch replaced, the flywheel doesn't need to be resurfaced, but most mechanics do it because it's right there, and it's sort of preventative maintenance.
