I have a CEL read at autozone for free. Check your local places like this and see if they can do it. If they do charge it should be cheap. Doesn't take much to plug the thing in and turn the key to on.

I had CEL no symptoms, took to autozone, it said Shift module malfunction. (I have an auto-GT). After five trips to the dealer where the cel would come back on the next day, they replaced tranny and torque converter-had a fluted pilotshaft that ate the bearing. New tranny at 42,000 miles was cool. Point is, it could be anything. Go to autozone to get an idea for free.

pretty much in general, do i take my car in or not. If it has anything to do with the motor, it will be covered, but if it is a sensor from my Intake or exhaust. Should i just reset my ecu by unhooking the battery terminals? Should i just keep driving with the light on or not?

you can try resetting your ecu.

not sure about the celica, but my bros honda civic coupe (now totalled) had his CEL come on at 3500 miles..it was just to remind him that a 4000 mile checkup was coming (it blinked).

i bought my celica used (well after 4k miles) so maybe someone else can tell you if this is normal or not.

Didnt know you had a new tranny...anyways, I agree with autozone. A lot of people forget that they give the free test like that.

I take it that you have an Intake and exhaust on your car. If I was you I would reset the ECU, clean the MAFS and see if the CEL goes away. Take it back to Toyota (I'm guessing they put your new engine in) if it doesn't. They might hassle U about the Intake or not depends on dealerships. Toyota should check and/or repair the problem for free if they replaced the engine regardless. Did you have the Intake on the old engine? Please don't drive too long w/a CEL.

same problem here too, my CEL light keeps coming on too ( Everything is STOCK no mods yet till i figure out what's wrong) even when i clean my MAF sensor, Reset my ECU by disconnecting the negative from the battery for 15-20 minute, always have gas cap tighten too, and yet the CEL light still comes on so i'm stuck. It's running fine and all confused hey i'm just wondering but man the first day i drove it and it never came on till after i fill it up with gas (unleaded regular 87) then it came on right the next day while driving on the highway confused did i put in the wrong gas?? BTW my Car is a 2000 Celica GT Manual smile

Listen if i had no Mods and my CEL was coming on I would take it to the dealership pronto! warranty or none. My friends drive with CELs all the time. On beat up pieces of crap that cost $2000 or less to buy. You get the picture. A CEL light isn't something to be ignored.

yea i took it to them one time and they say it was the gas cap and in 15 days or so if the CEL light still lights up, just bring it to them to fix smile but i'm just hoping to fix this problem by myself if possible, that's all

Disconnect your negative batter terminal for about 20 seconds, and see if the light stays off for the next few days.

If you are still under warranty, then get it fixed for christ's sake.

Not only demand it, but DEMAND IT, that they give it to you free of charge in writing the problems you had, a free lowner car and oil change or maintenance if your scheduled for so. Make them bend over backwards for giving you these present problems. They owe it to you and you don't have to take it.
