Newb Question about Shaving...

Ok, I've seen people with shaved door handles, side marker lights, and more.

Question is, how do they go about doing that?

Filling it in with some sort of compound, filing it down, and then painting it? Most likely can't be done, but just wondering, because I think that it might look decent.

The reason I wanna know is because I was looking at my car the other night, and I wanna try and do something that looks unique. I wanna try and cover up the rear side windows (the side windows in the backseat) and paint them to match the rest of the car so it looks like they aren't even there.

How much does shaving generally cost, can you do it yourself, and what does the whole process involve?

Any input would be appreciated. thumbsup

Dude, don't do it thumbsdown

You won't be able to see ANYTHING when you wanna change lanes. Plus, I don't think it'll look very good.

I don't think I'm gonna do it, just wanna know if it can be done, and what shaving actually involves.

Didn't think about the lane changing thing. rofl

Sure, anything's possible with enough money; that doesn't make it a good idea.

There's probably a number of ways to skin this cat. You should probably just call a bodyshop and ask them. thumbsup

But I just wanna know what the shaving process is in general. How would you explain it to a mentally retarded cancer patient?

Alright heres how they do it.
1.they take out door handles
2.draw a template with cardboard of hole
3.cut a piece of steel/metal to that shape
4.weld it on there and grind it down
5.shape it to get the same curves and look stock
6.maybe bodyfiller but doubt it.
7.paint
8.install solinoids to open with remote

They also make these kits, that just shave the door handles (kinda) well you take the assembly out for the door handle and put in this smooth peice that fits exactly in the same place... and you can have either the solenoid or a small door handel at the bottom of the door, kinda under the car that you have to reach under to grab...
