I have the "6" speaker GT. I am looking to do away with the head unit and replace it with a amp that will be hooked into something else. How many channels would i need for the amp to power all the speakers? 6? or 4? Basically, do the tweeters run off the 2 main speaker in the doors or do they have their own channels into the head unit?

Don't really have an answer to that question directly, but typically a 4 channel would be what you want if you are gonna replace your door speakers. You just run 1 channel to each the front R and L then the crossover does the splitting of the power to the tweet and midbass. Then channels 3 and 4 to the back.

I think a really good set of components for the front would suffice with a strong amp (300/2) to run them... disconnect the rear's and forget about them

- that system paired with an 8 volt preamp head unit and a premium subwoofer/mono amp would be serious
