it is worth it~

mod an CAI and it gives you better torque for hill climbing
mod an exhaust for better tones of sound

as long as ur intention is not towards beating other cars...it's all worth the mod~ thumbsup thumbsup

^^^ idunno~
then ic ur intention is towards beating other cars~

i only mod my auto gts for Performance, because i want to see how far the auto can go with Performance

i have only Intake now...header is waiting for DC, and waiting for my friend to open his shop so i can have a custom exhaust...

i didnt choose to mod show because my car is a daily driven car, and i like to release all it's potential by putting only Performance parts, but also maintain it's stock form & also comfy for daily driving.

Comfy in my mind is: when i step on the gas pedal, i only need to step a little to get the car movin at a decent speed. the auto gave me that option, cos i dont have to change gear all the time, and my left leg will not need to be so tired when stuck in traffic. despite the fun of driving manual, there are a lot of hills here in canada...and manual for a car that i will be driving for 100km a day in city roads with hills will drive me nuts.
comfy in my mind is: the quietness of the car depite of the engine sound and exhaust sound. because of that, i added dynamate.

if i choose to go for show, i would have to worry the followin: cleaning my car everyday, worry about denting my rims,bodykit..ect. like i said, it's a daily driven car, i dont want to have to worry so much about everything on the car...

so...im not saying that it's not worth it, it all depends on the intention of the mods~~

and to finally answer ur question, auto GTS run a rage of high 16s - high 17s in 1/4 mile.

I'm kind of in your situation. I work for Coca-Cola and drive anywhere from 40-70 miles a day (2 days a week)when working. Plus i drive alot, so thats the only reason i havent already gone for the show mods. I do understand what your saying about quality Performance, i feel the same way kinda, thats why i wanted to add some Performance mods.

Um... You people are still talking about auto GT's being quicker than the auto GTS... bs

It's a joke that you still believe this wild rumour. and I'll go on record right now and put all my cards on the table... unless you are running forced induction of some sort, there is no way in hell an auto GT will beat a sportshift GTS. If you have an auto GT feel free to hit me up for a race anytime you want and I'll be sure to politely hand you your ass.

Manual GT with a decent driver, yes, that's totally conceivable if he's got some bolt ons, a manual GT will give the sportshift a good run, and if the driver is any good, he could probably squeak by you and win, but an auto GT, even if he's manually shifting the gearbox, he isn't gonna win.

and if the sportshift has mods too, look out.

Lift makes all the difference in the world, off the line the GT may have a slight edge because of the extra torque (maybe you'll get ahead by 1/2 a car length initially) but by the time my tach needle gets to 5K it's all over.

You can get some good gains from Intake and exhaust work, and if you choose to spray on an auto GTS it would be sick. Pretty much any engine mod you can do to the manual GTS will work for the auto GTS as well (pulleys, valvetrain upgrades, lightened or knife-edged crank) You can also bump up the compression with the 13:1 pistons if you choose to, just be prepared to either run racing fuel or buy an ECU upgrade from brash boy to runn off pump gas (the only ones that currently make them for the GTS autos that I know of)

TBKO is still working on an ESK for the GTS automatic tranny, it will also be available for the GT though.

last bit of advice I can give is this: weight reduction is your friend. Carbon Fiber hood and Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber fenders can help in this regard (both Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass fenders are now available BTW)

True, nobody is hating, but then again, lots of people are still talking a bunch of bs drivetrain loss is the same whether it's a GT or GTS auto, the difference is in the engine, the gt makes 140 HP while the GTS makes 180 HP and has a higher redline. Being able to manually shift (and downshift)without tearing up the tranny also helps things.

Don't buy into the haters, just turn a wrench and practice, practice, practice. If you're losing to a auto GT, you're doing something wrong. thumbsup

GREAT post Rave thumbsup. You put the biggest smile on my face when you said "If you have an auto GT feel free to hit me up for a race anytime you want and I'll be sure to politely hand you your ass." rofl Someone mentioned the Apex i Power FC, what are your thoughts on that beast? grin

hey RAVE. look at the time slips from a auto gts and a man gt. the gt is about a second faster in stock form. auto gts have a HORRIBLE gearing ratio and it absolutly kills any Performance the engine has. the auto gts is the slowest of the four celica models.

a kid told me that celicas handle like crap... i laughed

i still say the auto GT might beable to kill auto GTS... idunnosometimes you just have to admit it~
my friend's auto GT beat 3.2 TL (no type S, 225hp) off the line...but the TL gained back in 2nd gear.

and i lost to the TL off the line...so...

the torque curve is just simply better in those GT...

oh, and the time slips...auto GT does also have a almost 0.5sec faster time over the auto GTS.

so here im again stating that auto GT might be able to win an auto GTS...

it's still a might, cos i have never run one b4...yet.
