3sGTE...topendmotorsports.com (look under their JDM engines section) I think its like $2000 with either the RWD or The AWD...

3SGTE, but it's gonna add about 100lbs to the front, so the handleling is bye bye. Why not just get a Turbo? It doesnt add that much weight plus it'll be cheaper.

yeah the 3sgte is probably your best option, but even that isn't a very good option at the moment. It hasn't been done many times and it was only used for RWD and 4WD applications. If you do go for a 3sgte then your best bet is to buy an MR2 with bodywork damage. You can pick them up for around 1500-2 grand with about 60-70k on the clock. Engine was in rear so hefty front end damage won't be so much of a problem. Check the engine thoroughly though if the car has sustained a heavy rear impact.

Really speaking though you should sell your car and get a GT4. Looks like a mini supra and has huge tuning potential and looks sleaker than the 7th generation. But if you prefer the shape of the 7th gen, which I personally do, then you'd be wiser to sell your car and get a GTS. Far less effort, much better Performance than the GT and won't cost you half as much.

Though those options are good, a lot of people love their celicas. They are a great looking car. So thats why they swap the engines.

I want to get a Turbo for my GT.. but I also want to swap the engine. I guess it would have to be one or the other wouldn't it?

If you did swap the engine with a 3s-gte engine, the 3s can be Turbo'd.

Yeah, i thought it came factory but wasnt totally sure. And yes, there are a lot of upgrades possible.

A guy in HCI magazine swapped a 3s in. Last I knew he was around 600hp.

Also, last I knew he was thinking about offering a full kit for around $10,000. thumbsup

yes you can do suspension work to compensate for the added weight.
as for gains,2nd gen (jdm) 225/235 hp,3rd gen 245/255/265 hp depends on which ecu and year/model you find.hp out put is alright as compared to Turbo charging 2zzge but where it makes a huge difference is the torque.and with spending a little extra you can make some serious power!
if you can buy a 3rd gen,buy it even if it costs more,as much as 500 more.
if you can buy it from an mr2 cut with the tranny the better.you can use the tranny(the awd tranny would be extremely difficult to fit in the 7th gen cause of the back housing that wraps around the back of the engine.
if you get the 2nd gen make sure you get the mass air flow meter same time (or you would have to go stand alone)
this aint no walk in the park swappe,(i have never done it in the 7th gen,but i do know about the 3sgte)right off the bat i can tell you that the Intake manifold would not clear the firewall,one would have to be fabricated or the stock modified(easier for the 3rd,hard like shit for the 2nd gen)2nd gen has 8 ports casted together 3rd gen 4 ports individual.before you buy a motor and have it sitting and having your car sitting,do your research into what this swappe needs for completion esp.if you are not doing the bulk of the work by yourself.

I plan on doing a lot of research before undertaking such a task... An engine swap is way off in the distance as far as my list of mods go, but hopefully one day.

3s-ge Motor is a impractical swap due to the massive drivetrain modifications and added weight.

If you are rolling in money and have a toyota specialist who knows both chassis and engine, then go for it.

Spend your money on some bolt-ons and built up your block. Turbo may be what your looking for, not a engine swap.

HatedON...stafford fabrications makes a good system for the GT, and its like $3,500 with everything including the fueling system...check here >>> turbo GT [staffordfabrication.com] and click on Turbo kits on the left menu...good luck thumbsup

Instead of swapping have you thought about converting? Trial has a really cool kit out. It allows you to convert your 1ZZ-FE to a 2ZZ-GE then to a 3ZZ-GE which is custom made by trial. the link is, http://www.trial.co.jp/trial-usa/original/engine/celica/3zz.htm check it out. they also offer a supercharger for the GTS. Their aero kit is pretty nice if ya got the money.

let me clarify, this a 1989 supra Turbo.do you mean the Turbo itself which is the ct26 or the entire engine which is the 7mgte.
either way,not a good idea.
1)the 7mgte wont fit,its rear wheel drive and even if you were to turn it sideways and get the transaxle(tranny) to bolt onto it,it still wouldnt physically fit.
2)to Turbocharge your 7af(engine in stx)would not make any sense economically,besides you would have to run low boost on the 7af or the ct 26 would make quick work of the 7af.(i know,i'v seen it done on the 5sfe which is its bigger,stronger cousin and didnt last long)
3)stx is not a good platform for doing swappes,cause it came with the 7af and not the 5sfe.as a result,someone who is doing a 3sgte swappe into a gt would have it a lot easier than you,even though both cars appears to be identical.they are not!from an engine swappe stand point.
4)sorry dude! the "s" engines from toyota aint gonna fit in you car that easy.but you can drop a supercharged levin(4agze) motor in easy. 170 hp its a 4"a"gze engine and would swappe easy with the mounts/tranny etc.with your 7"a"fe.just get the ecu and electronics and take some honda heads off thumbsup

anyone have any experience with rotary engines ? someone i know has a 13b Turbo II and he is only asking 250 for it . i know its a small engine , but being RWD , i dont think it would fit . how is the Turbo system on this stock RX7 engine? is it possible to tear the Turbo system off , get a new controller and manifold and use it on my celica ? i dont know a whole lot about Turbos , any help would be appreciated .

the rotary engine would not work for you.its for rear wheel applications.if you have a good shop,i'm pretty sure the guys can fit one into a celica by doing a tranny plate to use a front drive transaxle.but its going to be a lot of work!
the motor itself is very small,size wise the 2zzge is bigger by far.
as for Performance,they got balls!i dont know about too much guys stateside,who do port work on rotary motors,but down here,we just give them to the puerto rican guys!
for a few hundred bucks you can get serious power by porting alone! or you can go "all out" but it wont be streetable.
listen, if you dont want that rotary motor maybe i can buy it off your friend.ask him if the apex seals are still good.i sold an ae86 that was tubbed,rollcage,9",ladder bars to this one guy,he had a rotary in it,non Turbo 750 holley bridge ported,i dont know how much power he was putting down,but the car ran 10 mids on the juice.the motor was damaged (water) so i think he is looking to buy another for cheap.

3zz sounds interesting to learn about, but HOLY CRAP!! All that dough!! I'd Turbo what you got. It would cost SOOO much less. A few months ago a guy on here had a suped up GT with 300+ hp if I remember correctly. Must be nice.

thanks for the info , my brother has an 2nd Gen RX-7 ,the seals arent that great and its still got some nuts . i would really like to swap that in , and i own a machine shop and can make just about anything i might need . (first i need another car to drive haha) . do you know anything about the Turbo system ? if i dont use the engine , i would like to at least get my money out of the Turbo .

The 13B Turbo II had pretty good power for its age. It pumped oout about 210 HP estimated. In my opinion the Mazda Turbo system is quite reliable, the 13B is the same engine used in the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda 787B which had a Turbo on it aswell. I think it would be interesting to see a rotary in a celica.
