ok well i went to toyota and they told me my gauge cluster was fried and they were like there are all of these things that look a little melted and im like those are leds stupid and they are like well that messed it all up im like what ever and then they told me that they have to specail order a new cluster because the odo is in the cluster and they have to program my miles on it is it true or can i just plug any cluster in there and it will show my mileage??? because if its not true i will still get the new one and buy and nother one so i can try to put the leds on there again and if i screw up i have to good one still.

It's possible that the gauges are damaged...they are VERY sensitive. So then U didn't have any backround lights in the cluster?

The dealer is correct. They will have to reprogram the correct mileage into your new cluster and you do want them to do this if you end up having to sell the car for some reason. If you are able to find a used cluster and save yourself some $$$ they should be able to reprogram that one instead.

Cause they aren't cheap frown But I know they do break easily, so if it can't be fixed, you're better off replacing it. smile

We just had our cluster replaced. We would be driving down the highway and the odometer would be at 100km and then drop to 0. When the new one was put it our mileage was at 0 again. We have been told that it should reset itself but not yet.

Never heard of it not resetting itself? I hope it doesn't because what is on the odometer now is much nicer then the 40000 that was on there. Luckily it happened while it was still under warranty.

if you ever sell your car and they find out you'll be busted with odometer fraud which = not good

The dealership records it for you. And I would never sell my car without being honest about the odometer. I am in the insurance business and see shit fly everyday because of these types of things.

Clusters are expensive. Changing the led's to red was actually pretty easy. Just don't force or bend anything. Takes a steady hand thumbsup
While ur at it, you can change the gauge for reverse ones, change turn signal bulbs & the high beam indicator bulb.
Heck-you can even change the color of the needles or make them clear.

I thought that the miles were stored in the ECU.
I had one of my friend put in my blue LED's. I dropped off the pod with him and then made an 11 mile round trip to my house and then back to his to pick up the pod. The miles were on it when I pluged it in. I wrote down the miles before I left just to see if it would affect the milage without the pod.
Is my car crazy? Was it just luck? Or does the car have to drive a crtain distance without the pod pluged in?
I have an 02 GTS.

I'm gonna take your little Civic. Dust it off. Turn it sideways and stick it straight up you candy A*s.

If you have to get a new cluster, you'll need to get the mileage programmed in.

If you use the old one, the ECU might store the mileage, it might not.

I don't think it does.
