I heard that if you replace the catalytic convertor with straight pipe you get a "pop" noise (I think its a backfire, but im not too sure if thats what the "pop" noise is). anyone else have this problem? I want to avoid it but I also want to replace the catalytic convertor and reasonator. Let me know how to make it happen with no "pop".

Have you actually heard this pop, come from your tail pipe, in "actuallyity" it should not be a backfire, that would be a more engine geared noise, this pop could be an uneven distribution of air in the straight pipe, poping as that you can do pulling your finger out of your mouth, creating a pop... as that is occuring in ur tail pipe

i saw the video and it sounded amazing. Im not sure how i would explain to somone at a muffler shop that i want to replace the pipe containing the cat and reasonator with reasonator where the cat used to be and the rest just sraight pipe( basically what you have) how much would it cost roughly and is it possible for them to do. let me know cause i dont want the pop noise and yours sounded pretty damn good. nice job.

I haven't had to yet, but I'm probably gonna put all the stock parts back on.(exhaust, catalytic converter) By the way, will I pass with the Injen CAI?

i get that popping and i still have my stock resonator and cat...i have a pos obx racing muffler that i got free from my friend. its actually decently loud, will taking the resonator off make it too loud (a local muffler shop is willing to do it for $50 for labor and parts)? i dont notice much sound supression when i put on the silencer.

Hey, street prototype: Did you use your reasonator that came with the tanabe exhaust to replace your catalytic convertor? Cause I'm gonna go with 1 of these 2 setups: remove reasonator and keep cat leading to the catback exaust with the catback muffler removed or... reasonator in place of the cat and the rest straight pipe (like you have)leading to the catback exhaust with the catback muffler removed. I definetly don't want any setup that will make the "pop".

i dont have a Tanabe exhaust, the video looks like a Tanabe really but its one of those generic type mufflers, in fact its MDR motorsport muffler... about the resonator replacing the cat converter, check your local muffler shop if they have any available resonator you can buy from them, the muffler shop i went too got a toyota resonator, i dont even know what car it fits but it did fit perfect under the heatshield of the cat converter, you can buy resonators from any parts store and look for the size that fits perfect under your heatshield, by the way, the bigger the better, it will sound deep and loud like mine... if you have anymore questions just post, were here to help cheers

Back pressure is really needed in Celica...
From my experience... I rather have little back pressure then less...

I had the straigh pipe(with hig flow cat)...
Low end is really dead..

But now that I have Veilside exhaust.. it's brought back just enough back pressure...
It improved so much low end.. and still it has pretty good high end... not as good as above setting...
It smooth out the whole power band... take off is so much smoother...
