sorry.. I don't think everyone who sells "A HEADER" is wrong.. you find me ONE ad selling "headers" for your car that is not a V6 or V8 (because V engine types need 2 one for each side) and I'll change my mind, but I JUST bought "A HOTSHOT HEADER" for my 4 cyllinder car, and every "header" for a car that is not a V type engine is sold as a SINGLE header. not "hotshot headers". TRD sells "THE TRD HEADER" not trd "headers" unless you are buying a pair of V6 headers for your car... not sure where your are getting your info.. a "header" can be a 4-2-1 header or a 4 into 1 HEADER... the HEADER is the design of all 4 pipes coming off the engine to improve performance (thats what defines it as a header rather than an exhaust manifold).

You say it with such conviction though.. I can see how you can get confused because people with V6 and V8 will always refer to it as headers since they all need 2. It's a common mistake, but rest assured that on a celica you only need 1 header, certainly not 4... smile

RIGHT out of the encyclopedia... ok this should put this one to bed

Exhaust Manifold: The network of passages that gathers the exhaust gases from the various exhaust ports and routes them toward the catalysts and mufflers of the exhaust system. A manifold with free-flowing passages of a carefully designed configuration, called a "header," can improve breathing.

I am loving the header more and more each day. I just got into a few races tonight, and I know that I would have lost if I didn't have the header. All those who are thinking about it, I recommend it. If you have an auto though, you will need to do some mods for the low end. Manuals, you will love it.

ok, so if i get the hotshots (which i probably will, i just dont know when ill have the money for it) i dont have to modify any other part of my exhaust setup right? i dont have an upgraded exhaust system- just stock. i remeber spider saying that it would be fine just changing the header but better if my exhaust were improved, but not necessary right? sorry, stupid question...

I will be working on getting a dyno for you guys. Its like $75. I don't really want to spend that much money ya know.

Vejita, you do not have to modify anything. But remember, the more mods the more performance. Say the header adds 8-10 hp, and your muffler adds 3 and hi-flow cat and straight pipe adds 5, thats like 18 hp individually. But if you have all that done, it all works tagether probably giving you some bonus hp.

Actually guys, I am leaving my house right now to see if I can get dynoed. Peaceout.

I just got dynoed. I'll post it up in a few days because I have no access to a scanner.
123.9 hp
113.7 tq
It was about 87 degrees with 55% hunidity on a warm engine.

My new plan is to get a nitrous system (very soon, like a month or so), then a supercharger when it comes out. thumbsup

6087 for hp.. where did your torque peak? and how much more level is your torque from what it was stock? (check AEM website in the CAI section for stock GT dyno.. you can compare)...

Any chance you would email me your Dyno results???

FX MAN, hopefully tomorrow I will be able to use my roommates parents scanner. I will send it to you and post it as well. Remember when I said in one of my posts on the 1st page that I felt it at around 4000 rpms really good, well the dyno shows why. It has a real good steep climb at 4000.

Hp peaked at about 4300 rpms
Torque peaked at about 5700

I never got a dyno done when I was stock, but the guys that did it said that the numbers are about right and they were also impressed with it.

you sure that's not backwards? The numbers sound right but I think you reversed HP and Torque

I don't think so. This Dyno looks a little funky. The lines don't match up with the numbers. It says 123.9 hp but the line is at like 120 and 113.7 for tq but the line isn't even at 110. I'll post the sheet tomorrow. Sorry I can't be more help.

But looking at it again, my peak isn't at 4300 like I said before. Its at 6800, and he let it redline til 6800.

4000-4350 has a real steep climb. 5300-6800 has a real good climb.

I'm not very good at describing all this shit, so I will shut up while I'm ahead and post the dyno tomorrow. Peaceout.

I just saw a dyno from a GT with Injen CAI and thermal exhaust get 129 hp. Remember how I was tlaking about my exhaust and I don't like it cause I feel like I lost power. Do you think that is the reason why my numbers are less than his even with the header? I have been debating on getting the thermal exhaust, should I get a new one now? My exhaust wasn't so bad that I need to spend another 500 on it. But I feel that I could get at least another 10-15 hp if I fix my exhaust. If he has 129 with intake and exhaust, I should get like 135-138 with I/H/E right?

Check out these dynos. They have 129 with I/E. I am pissed off here. I know that i lost power, but I didn't know it was that much.

Sorry I didn't get that dyno up today. I will have it up soon though.

so you lost power because of your exhaust? could it be the high flow cat in addition to the exhaust, causing too much drop in back-pressure? i dont know much about exhaust systems, but i remember my friend saying something about a civic that had a huge dual exhaust system on his car and that too little back pressure would cause a huge drop in torque or something. not sure... confused

I think that may be it Vejita. I have TSRM and it is the biggest exhaust, plus 2.5" piping. I think that it is too big and I do not have enough suppression

isnt there a way to change the parts without getting a completely different exhaust system? like the mid pipe or cat? maybe if you get narrower than 2.5" piping? then you wouldnt have to get a completely new system...or...i might not know what the hell im talking about. it just seems to be a shame to spend all that money on something and not have it work...hope it all turns out good dude... thumbsup

I'm thinking of going with the thermal exhaust. But I will not do that til after nitrous. Like I said, its not bad enough that I have to spend all that money.

The header is totally worth it. where in the post did it get you worried? I have nothing bad to say at all about the header. I'm sure that the root cause of these negative effects is my muffler.

ok, kewl grin ... hotshot header is next [Razz]
you think it would be your mid pipe? friends accord (now has a lexus is300) had aftermarket exhuast, but when he increased his mid pipe size to 3" he lost noticable low end power frown

I definitley lost low end, but I think the root of the cause in my TSRM muffler. It is also 2.5", so I do not have a good suppression for a good pitch/performance. If I got a different muffler such as TRD or Thermal, I'm sure I would get those gains back.

Pulleys, short ram intake, maybe an engine torque brace could help.

One thing though. When you first get it on, you will feel like you have lost power, that is normal though. It will pick up. My exhaust seems to be getting better day by day, but I think I could make it a lot better.
