Alright I PM'ed a few people about this, and I just wanted a little more info.

Here is the story: I got my Injen CAI installed a few days ago. But when me and my friend were doing it he uninstalled this long bit of black tubing. Now when we installed the CAI and hooked everything back up, but he didn't replace it. But then looking at the instructions I see that it is supposed to be cut then reattached. I've been driving around for a while with no known ill effects. Could you tell me just what is this part and what does it do? Have I harmed my car by not having it reinstalled? I am planning on getting it reattached today I just want to know a little more about it before hand. Here is a picture with the missing part marked. I suppose this is how it should look.

"4. Remove the two part plastic tube running from the ECU. (Top part of this tube is indicated by the upper arrow in figure 1. Both pieces slide off for removal.) Set aside for cutting later."

That is from the install guide on this site.. but it still doesn't tell me much. angry A friend of mine suggested I cut off some of the tube and add a small filter.. Would that do...anything? confused confused confused

well, if the ecu (computer) runs hot like a normal computer then the cooling duct routes in air from the radiator fan (guessing a little here since i haven't messed with my cai since i installed it last year). installing a "filter" instead there might cause eventual problems.

I don't have a cai so I haven't done it, but I would hook it back up. A home computer will slow down and have errors when it gets too hot, and you ecu is just a computer in the car. I don't think Toyota would have spent the money to add that tube to every celica if they didn't think it was needed.

The install guide that came with the injen says it is there to cool the ecu.
