damn i'm tired of trying to paint my hood scoop. It;s made out of fiberglass and i already sanded it down. I also put a lot of thin layers of paint on it and it still looks kinda of ruff and not clear. do i first put paint on it, then sand it down, and then clear coat. i heard that was the procedure but is the hood scoop suppose to dull looking before i put on the clear coat. HELP!!! and also am i suppose to sand it after every coat of paint and clear coat?? thanks

i think you are suppose to sand after every layer of paint & clearcoat. it gets rid of the imperfections & dust & debry that might have landed while you were waiting for it to dry.

This is what you should do.

Sand the piece as smooth as you need it

Put at least two good coats of primer on it

Wet sand it smooth

Apply a few coats of paint (don't worry about runs to much at this point)

Wet sand with 1000 or 2000 grit paper (to knock all the runs and such down)

Then hit it with the clear and give it a few good coats (once again don't sweat runs and stuff)

Once its dry then go over it again with the 2000 and get the runs and boogers out

Once satisfied buff it to desired sheen.

Yes it's normal. After you put the first coat of clear paint shine will come up.
