I hooked up my AC Autotechnic Air/Fuel and Volt gauges and now I got problems that I think are related to the Air/Fuel gauge. Now have a CEL and when I first start the car it sounds like it wants to stall. I rest the ECU but this only fixed the problem for a day, the CEL is back on and she sounds like she wants to stall out on start up.

What did I do wrong???!!! Really need help here guys!

i have the same gauges(a/f & volt) connected the same way and HAVE THE SAME FREAKIN PROBLEM(except mine has no cel) angry i have asked here b4 and no one knows. does it only happend on start up and idle drops to about 700-500 rpm and it feels and sounds like its gonna die but doesnt?
i have a CAI i can hear it trying to suck in air. the car drives fine after a couple of minutes and warming it up does not help ethier i can be driving for an hour turn the car of for 5 min and turn it back on again and it still does it. i have no idea whats wrong. i want to take it to the dealer but i know there just gonna blame it on my mods confused confused i dunno like what i said b4 i hope its not major.

btw since you have a cel on maybe you can go to autozone and get the code if you can and let me know coz its really bothering me. oh yeah i have an 03 what yours???

Word for word that is the problem I have, well plus I have the CEL. I think I'm going unhook it to see if the problem stops. If it does go away then I may not hook it back up, it may have to just be eye candy.

Or I might have Craftsman look at it and tell me the code is the O2 sensor, and still have to unhook it and let it just be eye candy.

I thought maybe I tapped the wrong wire or something, but it seems like I did everything right but now the ECU is pissed.

BTW, I drive a 03 GT 5speed.

dont think its the wrong wire since thats the o2 wire. let me know the outcome when you unhook it coz mine is soldered together and i dont want to go to the hassle to soldering it in and out. getting the code would also be a big help. so let me know waht the outcome thanks thumbsup

oh yeah as far as reseting and removing the battery i already did it twice and the problem still persists

go to autozone and get the code pulled... then someone will tell you whats wrong... it'll probably be an easy fix.

Good the know you sooldered yours, I used butt conectors and I thought that may be why I'm having problems. Like it was not geting a clean signal to the ECU.

I don't think I'm going to put it in the shop to tell me what we already know (sucks), I'm going to un hook it. I'll PM you with the results.

Thanks for the help! thumbsup

I know there going to tell me it an O2 sensor, I'm going to unhook it. If the the CEL goes out then we will know I was right. If not its going to Craftsman to get checked out.

I'm no expert but maybe the ECU thinks it's 2nd O2 sensor isn't working properly since you're draining juice from that blue wire. I'm probably way off...

I had same problem as yours. Also 03 GTS. I think from 03 and on it's liitle different. I would recommend disconnecting the wire that you tap into for the meter. I did and it's running perfectly. I took it to the dealer and all they gonna tell you is that it's misfiring. CEL code that is. I've replaced spark plugs and fuel injectors but problem is still same. Recommend disconnect and forget about air/fuel meter. I would return it to whom you bought and get something else like water temp or oil pressure/temp. Hope this will help. It seems like people with 03 have the same problem with air/fuel meter.

so if the problem "IS" the (a/f)/O2 wiring does this do any major damage to the car if i do decide to leave it connected??? anyone know how this affects the engine??? for those who know a lot about cars why do you think tapping to the O2 sensor is causing this problem(if it is the problem)? i just find it wiered coz no wire where cut during installation

Here's an easy way to both fix your problem and get more accurate readings.

1) buy a new, single wire 02 sensor, preferably a wideband one.

2) take your car to the local exhaust shop, ask them to drill your downpipe, just before or after the before-cat o2 sensor, and weld on a bung for the new o2 sensor. have them then thread a bolt, or your new sensor, into the bung.

3) take the car back to your garage and hook the sensor wire of your gauge up to the wire on the new O2 sensor. If they put a bolt in the new fitting for the ride home, remove the bolt, apply some anit-sieze to the threads on the sensor, and install the sensor into the exhaust pipe.

Now, you have a highly accurate a/f gauge setup that does not interfere with the factory emissions control system, it acts on it's own circuit (the gauge itself).

You could always put a switch on the signal wire, so you can disable the gauge when you don't want it messing with your ECU. just turn the switch on or off before starting the car thumbsup

You usually only use the gauge when tuning anyways...

If you leave it as is with the CEL, you wouldnt be able to tell when soething was REALLY wrong. Its a worthless gauge IMO, get something else.

Sounds like the gauge is interfering with the electrical feed to the MAF sensor.
