hey 2000 gts owners...

previously i had complained to my local dealer 'bout troubles with the shifter in getting into certain gears. from forums at everythingcelica.com i had discovered that other 00 celica owners had similar problems. upon further investigation there has been a technical service bulletin for the 00 celica on 9/01 concerning "difficulty selecting gears with the 6-speed manual transmission."

trd has developed a shortshifter that cannot be implemented with the "retrofit" update kit if applied to older celicas. my celica is an older celica (2000).

i want my shifter performing at its ideal operating condition. my question is will the trd shortshifter replacing my old shifter resolve the TSB problem? and if it cannot, if i request my car be retrofitted with the shifter update, will it be covered under the extended bumper-to-bumper warranty?

anybody got any input?

thanks.

E

TC002-01 SEP 01 M/T - 6 Speed MTM Difficulty Selecting Gears

Due to a production change on the 6-speed Celica GTS, the quickshifter (00602-30301-010) will no longer fit this model if produced after 5/01, starting with VIN number JTDDY32T#10049042. Additionally, the TRD quickshifter should not be installed on 2000-2001 Celicas that were retrofitted with the update kit, as instructed in the 9/14/01 Toyota TSB.

I had this work done on my car.

No, the TRD will not alleviate the problem, the problem is with the shifter select cables and fork mechanisms.

The dealer doesn't have to do this, it is not covered under warranty, sorry. Mine was replaced because the shift cables broke 3 times, and on the 4th time, the dealer paid to get it updated.

If you do get the retrofit done, you can simply replace the new shift rod with the TRD SS if you want to, however, note that this will void the warranty on said retrofit, because you tampered with the housing.

The retrofit was well over $1000, I wouldn't want to pay that out of pocket.

Good luck wave
