Well, I got my new and painted TRD spoiler in the mail today from some guy I bought it online from. Was looking at it, and it came with the 3rd brake light, which he didn't mention. Oh well, I guess I saved myself some money.

I was also looking through the instructions and there is a lot more than I thought I would have to do to install it. Seems I've gotta drill some more holes in the trunk, and then rust proof them, and then paint them (don't see the point in painting the holes if they are gonna be covered up), and then do a whole lotta other shit too. I'm not gonna go to class tomorrow for this reason, so I'll have some pics up early tomorrow morning of the before and after pics of the car, that is if I don't fuck things up too bad.

I scanned the install guide, but that was before I found it online, so I guess I won't post it. But I will provide pics of the finished product.

Peace.

Well, it comes with some sort of cardboard piece so I can line up the holes with it, and drill the new holes I need. I don't think I will fuck it up, but if you knew me...

I took off the stock spoiler this weekend, and lost one of the nuts in the lining of the trunk somewhere. Havn't found it yet, and probably never will. I'm cursed. spineyes

That's what I meant, inside of the trunk lining as in, inside of the trunk frame.
rofl

I tried to shake mine out, but it never fell out, and it doesn't rattle anymore, so it must be stuck somewhere. rofl

EDIT: Whoops, and by trunk, I mean hatch. wink

Sure, but the only thing I grabbed before I went to work (where I am right now) was the install guide.

I can bring it and scan it tomorrow if you like.
They also say to copy the template, and use the copies as a guide because they only send you one template, and you need two of them (one for each side). But I assume that you could do one side at a time?

If you would like some copies of the template, I could make some copies to scale and mail them to you, free of charge of course. happywink

Anyone else?

Also, before I mail it, I will try to scan it and post it online, and see if it will print out the same size as it was when I scanned it.

If that works then anyone can print it out whenever they like.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but when I get home, I will gather all of the other paper guides and such that came in the box, and scan them tomorrow and post them. This way, anyone who bought a spoiler that didn't have all of the paper work with it will be able to install it and troubleshoot any problems they may have.

Well, didn't get around to installing the TRD spoiler yet, cause when I got home last night, I realized that I didn't have any 12mm or 14mm drill bits.

Went to the Homo Depot today to look for some 12 and 14mm drill bits, and drill bits generally come indentified by fractions, but I noticed that on the drill bit package, the metric conversions were shit like 12.3mm and 14.4mm.

Will those bits work, or do they actually have bits that equal 12mm and 14mm exactly?

You don't have to, but it would be wise considering that once rust infects an area, it tends to spread.

I got a can of some rustproofing spray that I'm gonna spray on the holes once I drill them. I'm not going to touch the holes up with touch-up paint though, like it states to do. I think rust proofing them will be good enough.

Well, I sent my dad shopping for them since I'm at work, and he said that all they have are drill bits rated by fractions, and they are also translated into millimeters, but they do not convert to exact millimeters, but rather numbers like 12.3mm and 14.4mm.

I talked to one of my friend tonight, and he said it should be ok, because a fraction of a millimeter isn't all that much.

and you could grab some washers to throw between the head and the inside of the hatch, and from the spoiler... just paint them and put them in, use some of the rustolium...

I bought the drill bits today, and that's what the guy said I could do, just throw some washers on. I don't get how that would fix it though? confused

Well the only thing I could possibly screw up is the drilling of the new holes. If I fuck that up, I'm pretty much fucked.

Has anyone ever done this install before? I'm now questioning the fact that you have to run the wire through the hatch. Anyone verify where the high mount brake light for the spoiler gets plugged in??? frown cry wave cool
