I used to have valve chatter at idle, but that went away, and recently I've begun to hear that same sound, only when the engine is at 2K rpm or 3K rpm while driving at 40 mph...when I push the clutch in, the sound goes away.

What is causing this, is there an additive to make it go away? I don't like the sound, and its not normal b/c it just started 3-4 weeks ago.

some people say the belt tensioner makes a similar clicking sound like valve chatter...but if you're really sure it's the valves then maybe you just need your shims to get re-aligned/adjusted...do you push your car hard often?

if it goes away when you put the clutch in it could be
"clutch chatter" thats usually caused from your
throw out bearing.

buy an oil additive that has a detergent in it. It should kill slight valve chatter.

what types have those? I'm going to change the oil soon, I'll add that.

Try the tune up first Diablo, see if that'll make it stop, if not then try the oil additive.
