Is this true? I talked to my mechanic and he said that inspection requires me to have my stock airbox so I'll have to send the CAI back. Everyone has these so there must be something amiss... What should I do?

Let me know soon, I'm having my performance parts installed early next week. confused

I have never heard of this, ever. AEM and Injen intakes are CARB legal, they should pass inspection in any state.

AEM...
http://www.aempower.com/faq.asp?fid=19&sid=&tid=3

AEM intake systems carry or are pending approval for a California Air Resources Board Executive Order (CARB EO) number exempting them from the prohibitions of California Vehicle Code (CVC) 27156 which states that you cannot modify your car in the area of the emission control system. The C.A.R.B. E.O. number allows you to legally install and use the AEM intake system on your car.

I don't think so, My point was if it passes in Cali its gotta pass in the other states. Maybe that sounds stupid, made sense to me.

...you guys are missing the point. AEM intakes also carry CARB EO numbers - the Injen pic was just for an example

I just want to know if this applies across all states - I'm assuming it does

in PA they're "inspection" is just to make sure the car is in proper working order and everything is safe...

Many states recognize CARB exemption.

My dad said that soon PA will have to have two different inspection stickers, the one out now, along with a CARB or CARB like inspection.

inspection, you know that thing you have to get done once a year in order to be able to drive your car... they don't have this in cali?

Anyway - you boyz sure are ripping on the mechanic. In actuality he is very good however expressed some concern over having to replace the stock airbox and just wanted to save me the hassle of having to swap the CAI out every time I went for an inspection. He will of course install it if I ask him to. No problems there... so, no , I won't get a new one tongue

In California, smog inspections are generally required during a vehicle's initial registration and once, every two years, thereafter. This inspection cycle will continue for as long as the vehicle is registered in this State. Smog Inspections are also required anytime a vehicle is sold or bought in California. During a title transfer the Department of Motor Vehicles will not allow a vehicle to be registered unless it is presented with a valid smog certificate.

Under current California law, 1975 and subsequent model year vehicles will be exempt from Smog Check when they turn 30 years old. A 1976 model year vehicle will be exempt in 2005, a 1977 in 2006, etc.

Currently exempt from the State of California Smog Check program are:

** Motorcycles

** Diesel

** Two-cylinder or less

** Two-stroke (two-cycle) engines(excluding rotary engine)

** Engines under 819cc

** 1975 model-year vehicles and older

** 4 model years old and newer (except for initial registration in California or change of ownership)

You can lookup much more information on this at...
