Unless you are looking at a major system, you really might not even need a cap. If you are going with, say, under 600 watts, I think it's overkill to get one. Otherwise a good 1 farad cap will do the job.

What exactly does a cap do? I have never heard of these. Also how much do they cost?

Make sure yall remember to check up an your alternator. If you upgrade your battery, it's not uncommon for your alternator to burn out. Just be careful.

i'm running 2500 out of my car, and i can say that the best thing to do is to get upgraded battery for the front, and and extra battery in the back to supplement power...go with a zero gauge power wire, and dont forget a zero gauge ground. i have a stinger 5 farad cap and agree that caps work better when they have supplemental power such as a 2nd battery. normally when i do installs i try to match i farad of cap to every 500-600 of continous power.
