Unless you are looking at a major system, you really might not even need a cap. If you are going with, say, under 600 watts, I think it's overkill to get one. Otherwise a good 1 farad cap will do the job.

i'm running 2500 out of my car, and i can say that the best thing to do is to get upgraded battery for the front, and and extra battery in the back to supplement power...go with a zero gauge power wire, and dont forget a zero gauge ground. i have a stinger 5 farad cap and agree that caps work better when they have supplemental power such as a 2nd battery. normally when i do installs i try to match i farad of cap to every 500-600 of continous power.
