hey-
I notice that most of the time when i shift into first gear on my 2000 GTS it's like it got something blocking it. It's hard to shift into gear. Does that mean the Tran. Fluid is old and need a change? Most of the time is hard to shift but sometime it's just so easy and smooth.

any opinion are welcome.
Thanks

you need to go and buy lithium based grease

its even easier with an aftermarket intake.

its like that most the time for me,it depends on what speed you are going.if you are going to fast it wont go into first.as a matter of fact i only use fisrt in crawling traffic and basically to turn off.with aftermarket parts the torque increase i got in the low end has allowed me to basically use my 2nd gear where i would normally go back to first.so it doesnt bother me that much anymore.

that's true sometime, but even if i'm at a complete stop it won't go in first gear easily. i have to shake the shift knob around a few round then it'll slip into first smoothly.
thanks for your comment though.

Yes, the cars are designed that way. You cannot shift into first if you are going to fast. smile

Try double-clutching down into first, but not if you're going at a speed that would rev too high in first.
1. depress the clutch pedal and put it into neutral
(you might be able to do that without the clutch,
just pop the lever forward, opinions anyone?)
2. blip the gas and before the revs can drop...
3. depress the clutch and drop it into first

If I don't do that, I almost always have to come to a full stop to get into first. I will use it if I have to almost, but not quite, come to a stop.
It's a good way to get away quickly from a situation where you have to almost stop, like approaching a light that is just about to turn green. First is awfully short, probably engineered that way because of the lack of stump-pulling torque.

You can practice the technique to get it down pat so you don't embarass yourself by grinding the gears in front of your friends.

But even if i'm at a complete stop, like if i was at the light that just turn red and waiting for it to turn green. It still hard to shift in first. most of the time i just shift in first like before i came to a stop and hold down the clutch so the car won't turn off. I'd prob. lube my shift linkage later to see if that help.

Exactly, do not force it in! It will only go into 1st when you are going very slow.
