i drained and changed my transmission oil today. i filled it up until it leaked out from the fill hole, then i drove it around, then i opened up the fill hole again and checked the fluid level. I didn't feel much so i added more. When it started to spill out of the fill hole I assumed that it was full, so I put back the fill plug. After, I looked in my book and it said that the capacity is to be 2.4 quarts, but I somehow used 3 quarts. Is that bad, or is it going to ruin anything?

2.4 quarts is what's needed...3.0 quarts means you just put too much.

it's not bad for your car--it just means your car will burn off most of the excess quickly so you'll probably smell burnt oil for quite a few miles.

if you feel like getting dirty (and taking a chance that you won't drop it) get back under your car, remove the "oil hole" cap (whatever thats named) & drain it a little, then plug it back up. obviously do this at your own risk.

next time: use the oil meter: its got 3 marks (for indicating low, full, and over). get it to the "low" mark quickly..then keep pouring a little, waiting a minute, & check every now and then)

yea, but when filling up for a manual tranny they don't have a dip stick. isn't it jus supposed to be, fill it up until it spills out the top?

The amount of fluid required depends on the type of engine and transmission you are installing the oil to.

All the numbers are posted at...

yeah, i know the amount is to be 2.4 Liters. Thinking back, the second time that i went to check the fluid after driving it around the block, i only jacked up the front of the car. hence, when i checked the level it seemed low because the car was tilted back. i ended up adding oil and added a total of 3 quarts.

my concern is that is the 0.6 quarts over the 2.4L capacity a problem or will be a problem or should I just drain it out and add again. thanks
