I've done this before with other cars and it has worked great. See you guys think it will work. I hope with this idea I don't lose any low end power. I have seen other shortram intake dyno where they lost about 8hp and then gain it on top with the rod millen intake, I think it was in sport compact magazine.

1. remove butterfly according to previously posted directions.
2. drill 3" hole in bottom of air cleaner housing.
3. connect a 3" tubing to run down into the bumper for cold air, like the fabric type hose with the spring inside. Optionally you can do 2 holes or a large one 4"-5" and run the hose to the lower bumper grille for a little ram air wink
4. install k&n filter.
5. take a hack saw blade and remove the restriction right before the mass air sensor inside the top of the air cleaner.

Basically this is kinda like a short ram intake which will get cold air. And it doesn't cost much time or money.

Someone had asked if this would set off the check engine light, but I think its no greater risk then any aftermarket intake, since the mass air sensor is unrestricted get full air.

Is my idea sound or frugal???

Yeah i'd do that too, (drop $30 on ebay) cause a lot of the HP gained with intakes is in the less restrictive piping used. Stock airboxes and piping are made of pastic and have ackward bends and angles in them that restrict air flow.

I thought about that, but I don't want to lose and low end power since and the ebay intakes states they are not for the auto tranny. I drive auto gts. It really lacks get up and go until lift kicks in.
