i have been having a couple issues with my gts 6-speed:
1. erratic idle when the car is cold (goes up and down until warm). never happened until i installed an aem cai. is that normal? even when it's warm i get the occasional drop in idle when the engine seems to want to die. i installed a grounding kit hoping it would alleviate the problem but to no avail it hasn't. the maf has been cleaned but i'm now going to clean the throttle body and change to higher end spark plugs. any other ideas??
2. there is also the occasional difficulty shifting into 1st and even 2nd. i've recently installed a jdm trd clutch kit and it still persists. i basically said fukit and installed a b&m ss and of course the problem's still there. i just got speedsource's shifter bushing and i'm hoping for that to rectify the problem but could this be my synchros?
if so, how should i go about convincing the dealer (it's still under the powertrain warranty) there IS a problem (they denied it already and didn't want to "tear apart the tranny for no reason").

Did you get the factory upgrade yet in the trans? There is definitely a problem w/ 2000 and 2001 celica gts 6 speed. My freind just had to have his tranny replaced for the same problem.

if so, how should i go about convincing the dealer (it's still under the powertrain warranty) there IS a problem (they denied it already and didn't want to "tear apart the tranny for no reason"). 1. Could just be the cold weather, but also try to adjust your throttle cable. Other than that, it seems to be normal. May just go up and down when your cooling fan goes on, or perhaps some other thing is running and you don't know it, such as the AC (doubt it, it's winter). But it's most likely just the cold. My car tends to idle near 2k when the engine is really cold, and as soon as the car gets warm, it idles just below 1k. 2. When I shift, it isn't the smoothest thing in the world. You can try to grease the linkage under the hood also. My 1st to 2nd gear used to squeak until I lubed it. Just have someone shift back and forth and look under the hood so you can see what to lube. I know that it has nothing to do with rough shifts, but it may help a little. Whenever I shift from like 2nd to 3rd, it's not really smooth. It seems like I always hit a little bump in the middle. I had my tranny oil changed, but it didn't help that much. You may need to do the same if you havn't already. Also, when it's cold, it tends to make for rougher shifts cause your tranny oil will be cold, and may thicken a little to make shifts kinda tough. Should be a little better when the car is warm, or perhaps in warmer weather. Hope at least some of this helped. Oh yeah, check all of your lines on your AEM Intake, and make sure the clamps are tightened ALL THE WAY. Don't be afraid to apply pressure, just tighten until the screw won't budge.

Are you talking about this... http://www.radphys.com/TSB_2001_6spd_GTS_Gear_difficulty.pdf Anyone know if that is covered under the Platinum Extended Warranty?? Does anyone know if any of the TSB's are covered under the Platinum Extended Warranty???

Are you talking about this... http://www.radphys.com/TSB_2001_6spd_GTS_Gear_difficulty.pdf LOL, I just found the fat kid on some website, didn't know where it came from. Anyways, the Platinum Warranty I have is only in effect for like 2k more miles. It stops at the 75k mile mark. It says that it covers everything that the original warranty covers. I don't understand what you mean about the parameters. You think I'm fucked? Anyone know if that is covered under the Platinum Extended Warranty?? Yeah my freinds car did not have the upgrade either and his started just like yours but got worse and worse. Now that he got the new tranny its working fine again. As far as the warranty covering it ofcourse it does. Did you get the factory upgrade yet in the trans? There is definitely a problem w/ 2000 and 2001 celica gts 6 speed. And once an auto tranny starts to go out, you can kiss it goodbye.
