hey peeplez...i've been wondering. i've bought my '00 celica gts auto used and it's had a problem. when i'm at a complete stop and either go half pedal or floor it, my car's rpms drop about a grand and feels like it wants to die then it comes to life after 3500 rpms... is this suppose to happen in a celica? in other autos as soon as i touch the gas the car launches why not my celi? is there something wrong or is there anything i can do? i've went to two different mechanics and one said it's my fuel pressure regulator(which sounds odd cause i'm a fighter jet mechanic and we have one of those) and the other mech said it was either my ecu or mapping sensor. i don't know what to do...if someone has an opinion let me know..i'll follow this site religiously
Ha ha...I let you win...but seriously i wasn't ready!

Yeah it could be your throttle cable. If not that then you could check the oxygen sensor, and if that's ok, try looking at the top part of your pedal there could be a few loose moving pieces.
Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.

I had a similar problem in my 2000 GTS 6 speed. I fought with this problem for almost 2 years. When I would step on the gas, the RPM's would drop and then the car would come to life about 2 seconds later. It was horrible because to keep myself from stalling when starting out, i had to give it massive gas and then my I would burn tire. I cleaned my MAF the other day because I was at my wit's ends and couldn't think of what else to do. Mind you, this is after the dealership told me that it was more than likely a major engine problem. To make a long story short...after cleaning my MAF, the car works fine. It no longer does that stupid stuff. Funny...I was ready to sell it because I thought that it was a major problem. Hope this helps!

There could be many little things wrong. I myself had that problem like the said before and cleaned the MAFS. It went away. Tightening your throttle cable is not a fix for every circumstances. Don't listen to that. And don't rely to the MAFS idea that worked with my car or others. Don't get me wrong, try it and see what happens. Maybe it will work. Like I had said before I tightened my throttle cable idling at 700 RPM's and after it still idled at around 700 RPM's. Why? Because I wanted a crisper throttle. There was no near stall or low idle before in my car. Tightening the cable in other circumstances just masks the real problems. It's just a quick fix for maybe a problem that doesn't have to do with the throttle cable. It's not good practice in my opinion.

Take it to a mechanic. The big shops will diagnose your problem for free.. it's only when they fix it that they charge
