Ok, this is the deal...I really wanna get a tricky sound system before all the serious mods, and since that time is coming soon...I was thinking about getting a nice head unit. I don't really get the whole deal of installing it, though. Like, I was looking at some Pioneers and stuff at Best Buy...so can you just pick whatever one you want, and it automatically fits? Or do the people installing it have to mod something out? Any suggestions on a nice head unit between $200 - $300?

Pioneer is an excellent head unit. You're looking at anywhere between 150-350 for a nice one. Keep in mind while shopping for units, that the number you want to look at is the RMS wattage. (Root, Mean, Squared.) If you look at a head unit that says somthing like: 45x4 Watts; In actuallity the RMS is going to be about half of that. So guess maybe 23x4 Watts RMS. [RMS is the amount of wattage which is traveling to your speakers at any given time. (Average)] Another VERY important factor you should look at when buying, is the Voltage output. A good voltage is 4Volts. Even better is 5 and in some of the most expensive equipment can reach 8 and more. The higher the voltage, the stronger the signal, and consequentially, the cleaner the sound. Distortion free is the way to be! When it comes to installation, i recommend doing it yourself. You can save about 50-60 dollars in labor, and it is SO easy. In order for the head unit to fit correctly, you will need to purchase a Wiring harness, and a mounting kit. At Best Buy they cost 16.99 each. Last but not least, since you want to upgrade with amplifiers in the future, make sure that the unit you buy has Front and rear RCA outputs. Those are the ports necessary to hook up your signal cable that goes from the unit to the amplifier. If you have about 300 dollars to pick a unit on, DEFFINANTLY look into Eclipse and Alpine. They have the cleanest sounding outputs I''ve ever heard! Good luck. thumbsup

well, I'm a trance listener happywink, so there's no real reason for me to be getting subs. Amp, that's wayyy back in my mind...so, basically, just head unit and replacement speakers for the time being. Oh, and any recommendations on some clean, cheap speakers for the front and back?

Yo dude, Trance is mad awesome with amps and subs. If you don't want them, it's cool, but would deffinantly recommend getting some nice inside speakers. If you get just the deck and speakers, it'll be a world of difference. thumbsup
