cooltoy2000 over at nc did a gb a while back for a shop to make replicas of the trd m sport hoodscoop. they were supposed to make fiberglass, carbon fiber and kevlar fiber versions. after delays with their subcontrator and the seemingly lack of interest, only 5 were actually produced.

from what i have seen and been told the fitment is almost oem. on a scale of 1-10 the final product fell into a 8-9. here's what cooltoy2000 said:

OK! I have fitted all the scoops and the fitment is 8-9 out of 10 (with 10 being stock). I give my seal of approval. It is as good or even better then one can expect from something that was manufactured from a picture. Rather great actually considering they had only a few images to work from.

I first fitted all the scoops with using just the stock bolts, without using the metal air diverter. They fit great. Then I took one put on a silver one, as it would be on the car (with the diverter and tightened down). What I noticed was that the shop sis not account for the extra thickness of the diverter and the scoop sits jut a bit high, thus creating a thin gap along the point where it contacts the hood. The gap is a bit larger on the drivers side then on the passenger side. I think this can be easily taken care off by shaving (sanding) down the foot on which the scoop sits a few millimetres. I think we should each do this on our own, as probably not everyone of those feet is exactly the same. So by doing it ourselves we can custom fit it to each of our cars. They may also be a chance that on some of the scoops the feet might be a touch too short, so a washer might need to be placed there to compensate. It would be pointless to have the shop do it, as you would have to have your car there. I do not consider this to be a big deal.

anywho, the shop is putting production on the backburner unless there's a flood of interest/requests. personally, i prefer the look which makes a subtle statement over stock and not as aggressive or bold as a c-one style (and it fits better.

if we can provide this shop with enough request they could ge the ball running. here's the contact's info:

it's the light refraction or reflection causing the "off center". it took months of revisions and modifications to get it almost perfect. even so, i've seen too many imperfections in c-one style scoops that eventually changed my opinion of them. this is definitely more suited to the car's lines.

Can you do it in Carbon Fiber? That is what he wants.

PS. I am glad you edited your post. wink

PSS. To bad you were not selling yours 9 month ago. I would not have gone through the pain of having one made, and would have just bought one of yours.

This one was available in November 2002 -I just don't plug my stuff much because it is usually pricey and beyond the budgets of most Celica owners. thumbsup

$400 is pricey for a Carbon Fiber hoodscoop. Trying to compete on price with product that is manufactured in sweatshops is imposable for me and I dont even try. For that kind of dough you can pick a nice Carbon Fiber hood. And on that wing, have you been looking trough my shop window or something? laughsilly
