HOW TO FIX SQUEAKY CLUTCH by Christian Fiore
I was in my engine bay today, re-lubing the shifter mechanism (started to squeak again), and while I was shifting through the gears, I noticed I had the squeaky clutch problem (usually associated with a damaged throwout/release bearing). Needless to say, I was quite unhappy. I tried spraying everything that had exposed hinges down there just in case, but that didn't stop the squeaking.
Then I tried pushing on the hinge connected to the throwout bearing. It was kinda hard to push, but with a little effort, it moved. There was also a swooshing fluid-like sound (kinda like when you're low on coolant, but a lot quieter). The swooshing sound went away in three or four pushes.
I jumped back in the car after a few more pushes, and the squeaky clutch was 99% gone! I pressed it in a good 20-30 more times to make sure, and the loud squeak didn't come back. There was still a very quiet squeak in the background when I pushed the clutch in very slowly, but you'd never hear it when the engine is on.
It may be only temporary, who knows, but for now it saved me an annoying trip to the dealership.

I'm expereincing the same problem, but it only sqeaks at 2000rpms and sometimes when idling. Do you think this is bad? because it sounds like crap.

I've been having the squeaky clutch problem also. but i cant tell from the pictures where the throughout bearing is. Is it inside the engine bay? or under the car? And also, when shifting into 2nd, the shifter squeaks, what do i need to lube up and where is it? thanks

...its the engine bay - notice the radiator fan in picture number 2, right below the word "Left".
The yellow hose in the picture is of the photographer's aftermarket cold air intake

You sure you got it, just making sure....I had the same problem with the squeaking in second so all I did was lube the shift linkage and it was fine after that.

Hey...well i've been having the same problem and i've found where to press but the squeaky noise is still there.. it sounds like its coming from under the car and it only squeaks on 2nd gear...is there any other solutions??

i have the same thing you have, 2000 gts....same problem....if i wanna down shift to 2nd...i just prepare everyone for it and yea...its loud as hell...i have learned to embrace it and just accept it...

yeah me too, I hear the grinding sometimes while downshifting into 2nd and I have a 2002 GTS. If I hold down the clutch for a little while before I throw into gear, it seems less likely to happen.

Whoa that is weird. I have the same exact problem. Clutch is making the same noise and I also get that swooshing sound.
Can I just push the thing that says "left" or would I need to purchase some lube? What kind are you using and what exactly the parts that you are lubing?
|
|
|
So wait, where is exactly that little thing that I need to push? I have a GTS and everything is bone stock. Was looking for it for a few minutes but I cannot seem to find it.

That grinding sound.... They are called sinchro's and they are shot, mine in my 2000 GTS are gone for 4th gear and 5th, sucks when I go to pass....You can avoid the noise a little by putting the revs where they need to be to go into that gear for how fast you are going, you can shift without the clutch using this trick, and it makes you able to downshift without the grind, otherwise a trip to the mechanic.

Hey.. well for others who are still hearing the squeaky noises after shifting into 2nd or which ever, heres what to do cuz i made a trip to tha dealer and one of the dude who worked there had one too w/ the same problems... he said to just basically lube or spray wd-40 (what i used) on the shift link near ur engine... it makes it much easier if u have an after market Intake system but right behind it, looking down you would see a link which is "GOLD" the only gold color part in that area and just lube or pray it and the noise would go away... the guy at the dealer said its just normal ware, that the oil is dry and just needs lube... well sorry i have a pics but it should be really easy.. if ur not sure which is the gold part, get a friend inside ur car and move ur gears and you'll see it move in the engine bay, just spray and VoilA! no more noise... well thats all there is and ill try to get some pics if i can...

lithium grease is fine?
|
|
|
hey, i had a little bit of a squeak from 1st to 2nd..using the wd 40 fixed it!! its probably all in my head since the sqeak is gone and im lovin it..but i think the gears actually slip in easier now.

|
when i shift from 1-2 i hear some wiered sound like a little bang from under the car , any on know the problem. and its not from nutral to 2 or 3-2 only from 1-2
|
|
|
Mine squeeked between 1st and 2nd and I just went to wal-mart and got a can of wd-40, had my dad move the shifter around and I sprayed the moving parts and its been gone since.

i have it too is this just an engineering fault. also does your shift into fist gear kind of hard to engage when the car is slightly in motion. is this normal

I have a 2000 gt and have that same prob only mine happens when I downshift into 4th. and same as you if i hold the clutch in for a few seconds prior to the shift it is less likely to grind.
this only happens in 4th though..
