FOOTWELL NEONS by 'smoovy'
At night, the car's interior is accented with blue neons.
Two 10" tubes are installed under each half of the dash
Two 9" mini-tubes are mounted under the driver and passenger seats.
The toggle switch was installed on the dash on the lefthand side of the steering wheel.

got a question for you. Ok I have installed a rev. indaglo kit and I have installed fog lights so now I have no more room for switches(cause I have an alarm and power windows which takes up the last two slots) anyways I was thinking about running it to my fog light switch and just splice it in with that. Im pretty sure that would work. but my question to you is how did u run your passenger side wires over to your switch??? Thanks
|
|
|
just buy a spindle of wire from pepboys/autozone and extend the neon wires

where can you buy the switch isaac?? autozone? pepboys?? do you think it's wise to connect the neon wire to the indiglo guage switch? just a thought, let me know eh! thanks!

You can buy the switch at wal-mart for like 2 bucks its in the section with the butt end connectors and stuff like that.

Gsellers9128, if you remove the carpeting on either side (don't know how to describe the location). But where the fuse located (passenger side) & gas pedal (drive side). Just remove the carpet a little bit and you should be able to run your wires through it (help if you have a rod).
My question for Isaac or Gsellers (if you know) is how to keep it in place?? bolts and screws come w/ it though drilling a hole is quite difficult since the bit is small. Another question is how you find the 12V wire?? i connected mine using the cigerate lighter adapter. it doesn't come w/ red and black wires. it comes with a cigerate adapter. thanks guys

use ZIP-TIES to hold the neon rods into place.
if you splice-in to the cig lighter attachment, you have two wires... a silver one and the other should be gold - - treat the silver as negative and the gold as positive.

Hey isaac, i've heard something about holding up the footwell neons without drilling. This true or is someone blowin smoke up my ass? I really don't want to cut into the car just yet.

no one was blowing smoke up your ass this its the ever faverit wire tie aka the zip tie

I just did my footwell neons yesterday with a switch, just driver side and passenger side for now (meaning I will have it looking like a space station soon ). I did a thick neon tube on each side and they are zip-tied in there. You can't even tell they are there and they are pretty bright at night. I also have a shift knob with blue LEDs so I'm gonna work blue lighting all through my 2001 silver GT-S, Any suggestions of what I should do next for my interior lights?

for the more advanced project... buy some smaller neons (4in) and put them up where the headliner/grab-handle would be located (on most cars but is not found on the celica) - but a bit further, towards the backseat.
... this will functionally brighten up your car's interior when the door is open and it will give your celica's interior a glowing effect.

couldnt you actually run your wires for the neons to the dome switch up top so when your interior lights come on (if its switched that way) then your neons would come on too or if your switch is turned the other way they wouldnt come on at all. Just another thought.

The footwell neons look great and it didn't take anytime at all. Thanks for the tips on how to install them!

Would I be able to wire them in such a way that I was able to turn them on and off via a switch, but also have them come on with the door light? So when I open my doors at night the lights are on?

Hey quick question: Did you use 2 10" tubes under EACH side, or just 1 each side? Thanks. Great post. BTW, anyone looking for a switch that'll look stock can get the accessory fog switch for a 96 - 02 4Runner. Looks stock, and fits perfectly in the 3 spare stock locations.

One 10" under each side

Howdy kids! I love this post, it's helped a lot. One thing I still have a question about though. Here's the scenario... I have 4 10" neons that I want to install to a switch on my dash. How would I rig up the pos and neg wires from the battery, to the switch, then to the lights? I'm not sure how I would run all 4 lights to one switch. Thanks a hoot! (Awesome post btw)

Hey, do you guys know some places that could install foot well neons for you? I think they look pretty cool, and i plan on getting 2 10" blue ones under the dash and passenger. Do yall reccommend any places? I feel i might screw up, and it might mess with my electrical system.

Hopefully this will help some people with questions... I bought 2 blue cathodes for my car and had quite an experience getting them to work. First of all, they came so that you could plug them into the cig lighter, which would look crappy and mega-tacky. I cut the wires and wired them to a switch in an open switch panel. Here's the important part: FOR POWER, using the cig lighter is not always a good idea, considering if you rigged up too much stuff to it you could start fires and in my case, keep blowing fuses. I found a hotspot in the fusebox, shoved the positive wire in, then put the fuse back in. "Voila!". I believe I used the fuse for the power windows. The lights come on even when the car is off. Just gotta be sure not to drain the battery... A problem I also had was with the lights being dim-which I fixed by cutting all my wire that I had rolled up. Resistance! You don't want it! Sorry about the ridiculously long post, but I hope it helps some people.
