  Not good sounds come from the cel.

2001 Red Celica GT

For the past couple of day when i first start up my cel every thing sound fine, but when i go to back out of the drive way its making a rubbing sound on my passgener side by the tire. I dont know if it is my brakes or maybe a cuv joint.
The sound only last for about 3-5 secs and it is going. It only does this on the first drive of the day then it is fine. I know its not the tire rubbing on anything. I have a 2001 GT Auto with about 98,000 mile. any help would be great because my warrnty ends at 100,000.

Yeah, might be caliper seizing up. I had that happen in my previous car (not a Celica). Passenger rear locked up one day, brakes got really, really hot before I noticed.

when i back up the car i dont have my foot on the brakes, the sound is not coming from the brakes,i am thinking it is my cvu joint maybe and has anyone had any problems with there joints. I will see if i can find a problem with
the brakes today.

The brakes could only be the problem if the sound is coming from the rear, and you had the parking brake on, and the caliper is seized (or sticky). If a caliper seizes overnight with the PB on, releasing the PB handle releases the brake pads only on one side, the other is still gripping, even though you're not on the pedal. It can get bad enough that the wheel won't turn at all (my daughter's old MX-3) and flat-spot your tire, or just drag and burn (my old Escort GT). The heat and/or stress can also make the caliper pop free within a short time (< 50 feet), making the problem go away temporarily. An idiot salesmen at a local used car lot tried to sell my daughter a car with BOTH back wheels locked up; he said "Oh yeah, all cars do that if you don't drive 'em for a day or two"

If the sound is from the front, then brakes move way down the list of suspects...like you say, could be CVU, or tie-rod ends, or a ball joint. Need a look to rule those out
