Adding a Trailer Hitch
July 19, 2001 - vnomura

Ever wanted to add a trailer hitch or back rack? Here's how to do it!

Items needed

1. Sport Frame trailer hitch made by DrawTite, Canton, Michigan. Model#24691
2. Socket wrench and various size sockets

Step 1
Take of the muffler as outlined in the muffler removal section of the Celica Garage tech tips. This makes everything easier. I think it's almost impossible without doing this. There isn't alot of room under there.

Step 2
Locate the towing hooks towards the rear of the Celica. These are used to tow your car or to tie it down to something during transport. There are 2 of these and need to be taken off. One of them is just above where the muffler was. Use the socket wrench to remove both of them.

Step 3
Use the supplied new bolts and washers to bolt on the trailer hitch. You may need to have a friend hold the hitch up while your bolt it on. It's very heavy.

Step 4
Install the muffler back on.

If you are confused about these instructions, don't worry. When you buy the trailer hitch from DrawTite, it includes instructions.

Exactly why would you need a hitch on a celica. What is the towing capacity, ten pounds?

You may want to tow your JetSki or SkiDoo....
